I feel bad for Hargreave, the man basically embodied the saying "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" He wasn't evil, he just knew things that made him take actions to save the human race at the cost of his own humanity. All the implications of what he tells you during this scene are honestly horrifying. The man experienced a microcosm of hell itself, being trapped beyond the world of the living but still attached to it. I'd agree with him when he says it was his own personal purgatory and that simple oblivion would be preferable. Edit: It's interesting to note he mentioned Theseus and the Minotaur. The Minotaur didn't kill Theseus the opposite happened, he overcame the labyrinth and killed the Minotaur. Seems like he foreshadowed Crysis 3 in that sentence.

I thought it was a reference to the “ship of Theseus”-the notion that if you replace a ship one part at a time, when does it stop being that ship … and something new altogether? In the same way, of course, that Prophet/Alcatraz was taken over by the nanites… at what point does the man in the suit stop being “human?” Definitely deep shit, and criminally misunderstood by the masses. Love this franchise!

I think Crysis 2 had a much better ambience, story and characters. Hargreave in particular was great. The new nanosuit was better, and there were many more types of weapons. But yes, more linear. It lacked tactics such as placing mines, as in Crysis: Warhead. And there were some dumb parts, like those "playable cutscenes" where you had to crawl or whatever. I did enjoy it, though, and I replayed it several times.

Ture Crysis 2 is linear but the story on it is still enjoyable and wasn't terribly bad but they kind of fucked up everything in Crysis 3. I still don't approve of crytek that they'd killed off Nomad on a comic which shouldn't have not been even canon. This sequel could have been done way better, in spite of that Crysis 1 is the best in the franchise for many to be considered it's peak.

Just finished Crysis 2, after waching the game movie of and wishing I'd played Crysis 1 and Warhead. But I was kinda confused the whole way through, then again so were the characters, even Gould was half baffled by it all. The presentation of the story made me feel like I'd missed something, as well as the rushed feeling, constantly being told ''hurry Alcatraz there's no time!'' Which adds to the necessary sense of urgency but didn't give me time to digest the story properly. Which however is a damn good story, I feel like they should've had more faith in it but were too scared of boring the player. I've yet to play Crysis 3 tho, which from what i've heard gets the storytelling/gunplay formula spot on. Got a few collectibles n unlocked artwork to gaze upon while I try to make sense of the beautiful chaos that was Crysis 2.

I personally enjoyed crysis 2 more than 3. The progressive downfall of NYC and the subsequent actions of both CELL and the USMC made a compelling story with major consequences. Though I will say Crysis 3 had some memorable characters and the plot wasn't bad at all. I just felt Karl Rasch and the female scientist running the rebel group had almost no real personality although Psysho made up for that with his more human characteristics.

It would be cool if you could actually restore it in Crysis 2. But you only get 500 ammo which run out and cannot be refilled unless you pick up another X-43 MIKE, which there are like 3 of in the entire game. For this reason, I never pick it up if I have the Grendel/K-Volt/Jackal/DSI sniper rifle or any other semi-rare gun.

Hargreaves was probably the best character in this game. Alcatraz could have been better but he was pretty meh imo. I know he was meant to be a blank slate for the player like the master chief in Halo, but there’s this one scene in the game where he just watches a couple get absolutely flattened by a building and doesn’t do anything to help. Could have been a great character moment for him…

11:05 I played the game like 3 times... but I am curious, at this part, he is telling the ceph to become prophet and whatnot, but then afterwards he makes an announcement to the cell troops about working with me to stop the aliens and turning them back.... So does he want me to succeed? He was the only one that knew the ceph were coming? He was just using me because he wanted the suit for himself so he can stop the ceph and be alive in the suit? He says GO GO SAVE US ALL and laughs like a nutjob... so is he just crazy but then tells the cell troops to help me as if he wants them to think of him as a good guy? Thanks in advance if someone knows the answer.
@AnonEMus-cp2mn
@AnonEMus-cp2mn Жыл бұрын
At 11:05 he is telling Alcatraz (not the Ceph) to become Prophet and finish what he started. Prior to the events of the game, Prophet went to combat the Ceph his way with Dr. Gould, and Hargreave ordered Cell to bring him in for going rogue. Lockhart (Commander of Cell forces) authorized lethal force, wanting Prophet dead (for some reason) against Hargreave's orders. Hargreave ordered Alcatraz to kill Lockheart, because he defied him and was in full control of Cell. Hargreave never wanted to kill Prophet or Alcatraz, but to him they were fully expendable with the nanosuit 2.0's sophisticated capabilities and cep data being more important. From my perspective it is unclear if Hargreave always wanted the nanosuit 2.0 for himself, or only because Prophet was dead. What is clear is that Hargreave was willing to kill Alcatraz in order to get the suit, fully intending to take up the mantle himself with a serum that would allow the nanosuit 2.0 to reengineer the ceph virus. Having failed to skin the suit, stop Alcatraz, and with ceph attacking the facility; Hargreave finally realizes he has no option left but to allow Alcatraz to continue in Prophet's place rather than him (even mocking him for it seeming like a futile effort). Finally accepting his fate (knowing there is no longer any possibility to hinder Alcatraz in order to get the suit for himself), his last orders are for Cell forces to stand down and assist Alcatraz. In all cases Hargreave is incredibly narcissistic and possessive. He ordered Cell to bring Prophet in when he went outside his control, Having no choice but to kill Lockheart after he also went outside of his control (defying Hargreave's orders to the end, wanting to kill Prophet/Alcatraz at any cost even if it destroyed the nanosuit), And Hargreave was willing to sacrifice any of his remaining Cell forces to kill Alcatraz in hopes to get the suit for himself until the very moment that was no longer a possibility. If you want to discuss more about confusing Crysis plot, Think about the nanosuit AI retaining Prophet's memories and personality with Alcatraz being basically a dead man walking with the suit keeping him alive. He dies or becomes brain dead at the end of Crysis 2 and somehow the suit uses a copy of Prophet's consciousness to continue? Its like the suit will do anything imaginable to keep the host alive, even if it includes patching up the mind just like it did bonding to Alcatraz's damaged organs. Apparently in one of the Crysis 3 files, Alcatraz's consciousness profile is said to be damaged and corrupted, with no option but to be put in storage. I can only rationalize this as being an indication of brain death with the body surviving and bonded with the Nanosuit rather than the body being a literal decaying corpse inside the suit. Its confusing as hell but I guess its a literal example of Hargreave's statement: "Death is an inconvenience now".

@@AnonEMus-cp2mn Now that you have explained it, Hargreave's actions thus far make more sense now. He's a narcissistic whackjob who wanted to be the conquering hero that took on the callsign Lawrence Barnes once had, but was thwarted by Alcatraz AND the AI duplicate of Prophet.
@Domasiukas
@Domasiukas Жыл бұрын
Hargreave wanted two things: A. To save humanity. For that, he needed a capable person in the nanosuit to collect samples and fight back the invasion. Alcatraz was already making progress in this regard. B. To save himself. For that, he needed to put his body in the nanosuit to use its healing properties before CEPH could kill him. Alcatraz had to be replaced to achieve this. To do both, Hargreave ordered CELL to capture the nanosuit but also guided Alcatraz to collect samples in the meantime. This plan was working until around 4:35. When the scientist was knocked out, Hargreave realized that saving himself is just not possible. Thus, saving humanity became Hargreave's only goal, so he gave one last boost to the nanosuit, and ordered CELL to help Alcatraz, because there was no longer any extra goal to be achieved by fighting amongst themselves. EDIT: @ParLeVu changed my mind and I wrote a better summary in the replies below.
@Xyearo
@Xyearo 10 ай бұрын
he wanted to be in the suit to save humanity because he thought only he could do it. now, alcatraz was their only hope.

@@Domasiukas I'm not sure if Hargreave actually cared about his own survival. Because there were plenty of nanosuits to go around, and he could easily slip into any of them. For some reason Prophet's 2.0 suit was the only one he would accept. And he keeps mentioning the suit's "data", which seems to be the point of interest, as well as the suit's enhanced abilities to combat the Ceph. As such, I believe Hargreave simply thought himself the best nanosuit operator in existence, with respect to combatting the ceph (more so than actually being a better soldier), as his intelligence and knowledge plus the suit's superhuman abilities would make the ultimate anti-Ceph tool. He even had prototype nanosuits in his room, which obviously could have been fitted on him if he wanted. I'm not sure Hargreave had any intentions of living a personal life anymore. He did imply that all human joys and personal motivations for it were gone, and that his only remaining goal was to beat the Ceph.
