My first impression of the song in the context of the sound, title, and lyrics is that it's a lullaby. Musically, it sounds like a nursery song, something to put a baby to sleep. A parent is singing to their kid, "Child, I will hurt you." But not intentionally. The parent is so loving and protective that she will inadvertently hurt her child. "Keep them locked away," "Clean their cuts and scrapes," "They know a soft caress," "Done for the greater good." Parents shielding their children from the world, leaving them unprepared to face it on their own.

This song reminds me of how bad I mistreated myself in the past years and how I actually hurt my child self at the same time without realizing, she's probably still somewhere around in there. I can't help but feel bad after all, because she didn't deserve any of that, and the title of the song portrays my situation perfectly. Every time I listen to it, I feel like my present self is talking to my inner child and is warning her about what's bound to happen. In any case, it's a really beautiful song and I am at loss for words every time I listen to it, it gives me a sort of nostalgic feeling mixed with regret but also makes me feel like I am in the safest place on earth, someplace where nothing can get you.

Knowing that is the first step to healing your inner child, so consider yourself blessed. Most people dont realize that the inner child is a real thing, and it's sad. Your inner child needs to be nurtured and cared for, needs to be loved, so you can truely love every part of yourself and grow. Ignoring that voice can lead to the path of self destruction that far too many people follow. Stay strong.

This song remembers me to my mom. I know she was unprepared to be a mother, even she wanted to be one. I love her, but, she wasn’t mature enough to deal the development of a child in a third world country. She was overprotective, she judged me because I was different to her and the rest of people, she wanted to control me with her contradictions, and being emotionally neglectful sometimes. But at the same time, as a mother do, she sacrificed many things to keep me alive, and even slowly changing her attitudes towards me. She still doesn’t understand me, but at least, she tries to be better nowadays. She had to let me experiment a little bit more, and let me do more things. Basically, letting me being myself. Of course, I’m not perfect either. I need to deal with trauma and my diagnosis(ADD, autism, depression and anxiety), but at least, I know that nowadays I don’t have to worry much about this relationship like before.
