I don't know about the "Icelandic" language reference it's quite doubtful? Icelandic is a cousin to Native American languages, for which, I am Indigenous myself. Nevertheless, some people have debated and they believe, there's a strong correlation between the vocalists behind the Cocteau Twins and Crystal Castles. There's much more shared between both Elizabeth Fraser and Alice Glass, which convinced me wholeheartedly. Alice and Elizabeth are both are considerable talents, earning "True Genius" status. Alice now, has her very own coarse and trajectory for her own music, after all Ethan Kath is "not" the only synth player in the World. There's a never-ending revolving door of young, talented synth-musicians who've also mastered an experimental sound, as well as their continued evolutionary ability. Does everyone remember -- it was Alice's vocals, that eclipsed Ethan's ability? Ethan only trained Edith to act and sing, just like Alice. His narcissistic ego driven personality, boasted he virtually did everything, also managing Alice's career, and wrote the lyrics according to one interview. He overstated himself, as if, he was the ultimate force behind Crystal Castles, dominating her demure personality. As a Psychiatric Professional, here's an outline opinion of what I've observed between Alice and Ethan. Psychogenic Dysphonia is a condition that affects the region of the brain, responsible for the neuromuscular control of the vocal cords. In general, most people don't understand there's a difference between speaking and singing. Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA) triggers the deformation of language, either in speaking or singing. Commonly, it's found to manifest in the "enunciation" of certain vowels, so if the stories are true about Ethan "grooming" Alice and abusing her both sexually, as well as, physically; then, it becomes obvious. Alice "now", often sings about her own self-worthlessness and references, way to much self-loathing -- which is common. If she were my patient, I'd have her work on that. Patients can repeat the mantra, "I have value" or "I am worth love" but, getting someone to believe it?: That's something completely different to achieve. Like Elizabeth Fraser there are "real" lyrics with very real meaning. If I apply the same techniques to Alice's singing, I hear her repeating: "I Come Out Finding Out Got Him Hid [Hide] Got Him Kissed" Victims of Childhood Sexual Abuse, very often protect their abuser, but at the same time their lyrics reveal a veiled sentiment of abuse as well. Ethan often takes credit for Alice's lyrics -- but, I know differently. Alice's pathology is all right here. Victims of physical and sexual abuse, bury deeply hidden messages in their lyrics, just so their abuser won't be able to understand what's "really" being explicitly communicated. Yet, for all of this conjecture and speculation, Elizabeth Fraser is hailed as "The Voice of God": And, I believe that Alice Glass has the exact same opportunity. She's already a Genius, she just needs the confidence to get back out among her fans. At the very least, Ethan needs to give Alice all her royalties for making Crystal Castles famous. Even if, you like Edith. It is the right and correct thing to do -- Don't you think? If you have the heart to do something, here is an excellent article about Alice Glass: www.thefader.com/2020/10/15/alice-glass-says-shes-being-gutted-on-crystal-castles-streaming-royalties

this song's vocals are sampled from Inní Mér Syngur Vitleysingur by Sigur Rós, it's not alice singing. but i agree with everything else you said. the fact that ethan tried to sue her and his case was dismissed is proof enough for me to believe alice

@@sixthcavalier As a Psychiatric Professional, I researched this topic, from following the announcement that Elizabeth Fraser had made, all the way into Alice Glass's histrionics behind her undecipherable use of language employed. Here's what the general public doesn't understand. The Universal Music Publishing Group has "Year of Silence" listed as, song and lyrics listed, registered and copyright under; Claudio Paolo Palmieri (professionally known as "Ethan Kath") -- Georg Holm, Jon Thorn, Kjartan Sveinsson, Margaret Osborn, and Orri Pall Dyrason, not, under a "sourced from" clause. Please note, that this purposefully excluded Alice Glass's contributions as did the music from their first full album, "Year of Silence" which lists the recorded in 2007. Ethan goes on to list Alice Glass as a "contributor" to the Crystal Castles by premier, Alice later said: "While recording our first EP, the recording engineer sexually harassed me while we were in the studio. Claudio laughed at me and pressured me to go along with it. He called our first single “Alice Practice” and said my vocals were a mic test. He concocted that story and told press it was an “accidental” recording, intentionally diminishing my role in its creation. It was another way of putting me down and preying on my insecurities." The pop-culture view, behind a "Year of Silence" is that, it was sampled from Sigur Rós; when, it was Alice's sing, but was registered in a way to divert, any suspect.

@@spinglasshydra that quote from alice is about the song alice practice in specific though. ive been a fan of the group since 2013, and there was always the myth that that song was alice caught off guard or warming up, which is why alice later cleared up that that wasnt the case. throughout their entire discography they sampled vocals from other songs several times, because alice asides from just being a singer is also a DJ and helped with producing a lot of the songs.

@@sixthcavalier Yes, "Alice Practice" is the song referred. I've been a Cocteau Twins fan since 1982, and I don't know everything about Elizabeth Fraser. I been researching "Psychogenic Dysphonia" for decades, irregardless of other peoples misperceptions regarding Alice Glass singing techniques and the popularized mythos relegating Crystal Castles as a dysfunctional collaboration, it's become a mute point when researching song ownership rights. These legal clauses by Ethan Kath are the exact reasons why he's determined to refuse, Alice Glass's royalties. Alice didn't recant anything, so far, if she had it would have voided her current legal claim's. Of-course Alice learned to mix, sample, and engineer music, that's not the contention, Ipso-facto is however. "Sampling" is nothing new, when the techniques were established since the 80's, probably far older than yourself, now. Under copyright law, any sampling of music, must be accompanied by 85% new source material. Ethan a citation; however, he ignores this relevant factoid - Why? My supposition rests, "Year of Silence" is far more significant than it's accepted view. When the trial begins, all will be revealed.

@@spinglasshydra Icelandic is a North Germanic language descended from Old Norse. There is no relation to Native American languages, which are completely different.
