The reason he gave that BS story about using you was because he didn't want you to mourn him like he knew you mourned Haurchefant. The Exarch wanted to be remembered as a villain so it would be easier on you. The memoirs of Count Edmont were legendary by the time he awoke.

Emet Selch is the G.O.A.T. The character as well the voice actor who brings that character to life in all its swagger and villainy is just so awesome. You actually miss the character at times. He just has one coolest walking swagger whenever he’s on screen.

To be fair to the people who forgot G'raha, it is easy to forget characters from ARR questlines after so much content and expansions moving forward. But I didn't forget him when I saw this scene myself last night since the crystal tower quest line was my fave in ARR and probably what kept me from dropping this game after beating Ultima Weapon. Of course, if I hadn't I wouldn't have experienced the post game leading to Heavensward and probably y'all know the rest. It was weird because I had a feeling he was going to show up again because of the crystal tower and because his name was mentioned in one of the dialogue line options when first came to the First. Also, the quest with him accompanying to mine some mineral and that talk you had with him, I remember the bgm played in one of the battles and one of the scenes was an OST prevalent in the crystal tower quest line. So yeah. I kinda had an inkling before but it still made me feel nevertheless.

One of the comments you made about what it might have been like for veteran players reminded me just how little I actually remembered of the CT storyline so many years after playing it. The feeling was like a TV show bringing back a B-plot character for an A-plot arc several seasons later. Really interesting storytelling choices. Glad you're enjoying it!

for me this was the moment I decided to use fantasia, because Graha Tia looked like a male version of my character the cutscene looked like I found my long lost brother or something great to see Annie getting closer to the end of 5.0, looking forward to more MSQ stuff

As to your comment about the exarch, everything he did was to make the wol experience the least amount of pain possible with this journey. He hides his face because sacrificing a faceless man is a bit easier than one who has a face. Let alone if you've done the Crystal Tower where you would recognize him and know to mourn. He pretends to be a villain and puts a show on even continuing to live so that you will curse him and not mourn as well. It's a feeble attempt, since none of his actions leading up to this hinted he was at all evil. But he still tries just with the hopes of making you less sad when he's gone. Fucking great man, G'raha Tia.

It's interesting. I started playing at the end of Stormblood, and back then lots of people instantly knew it was him. It was so bad that the devs started going out of their way to drop hints implying it couldn't be him. So a lot of the reaction was "of course he's G'raha Tia, who else could he be?"

I began playing towards the end of Heavensward, but never actually did Crystal Tower until after I'd finished 5.0, so I had no idea who he was lol

I started playing at Stormblood release, and was caught up with current MSQ by either 4.1 or 4.2 (can't remember exactly), and yeah... it was considered obvious to most that it was G'raha Tia, because we had nothing to do but pour over all the hints and theorize about it while we waited for the expansion to release. It was made even more obvious by the way the devs basically came right out and said "it won't be required, but you should REALLY do the Crystal Tower story before this expansion." They threw in a line when you first are exploring Crystarium, before the Exarch takes you into the Crystal Tower for the first time, where you can ask him "wait, so is G'raha Tia...?" and he's like "uhhhhhh idk what you're talking about, never heard of him lol" in an obvious deflection to try and throw people off. But that brings me to something that's interesting to note. During 5.0, the Crystal Tower raids were NOT required for you to progress past ARR. You didn't have to do them at all. That part in this video where you got the chance to "call him by name" wasn't even there if you didn't do them. There's a few other places where it affected stuff like that. Then when they reworked 2.0 through 2.55 (to remove a lot of pointless filler and make it flow a little better), they changed Crystal Tower to be required to progress MSQ. That went into effect in 5.3 (along with flight in ARR areas).

Not gonna lie I didn't know who he was the first time I saw the reveal. I quit ARR pretty fast and restarted in storm blood and hopped right back into msq without ever doing CT. They didn't make CT mandatory until like 5.2 or 5.3 or something, idr. So no joke my character kind of looks similar to g'raha so I thought it was a corrupt version of myself and wondered if he looked different for every player. I played CT after I beat shadowbringers and saw him and I was like "oh it's that guy" lol.

He kept the plan a secret because he could guarantee it would work, but if we knew, we would try to stop him. He pretended to be the villain in the here and now, so you wouldn't mourn him.

When I found out it's was G'raha i didn't even know who he was (I bet most players didn't know), lol, mostly because my crystal tower was in 2013 - 2014, it's normal to forget characters from side quests that go later on into MSQ .... 3 expansions later. Enjoy FFXIV Miss Fuchsia

i'm more of a person that remembers faces and voices, but not names. when i was going through shadowbringers, the moment i heard g'raha tia's voice, i knew who he was. i knew his face, his voice, but i could not for the life of me remember his name. it wasn't until his name was revealed that it all clicked. this story, as well as many other aspects of the game, is why ffxiv is one of my favorite games. characters brought into the storyline have some form of significance and everything comes back around full-circle. i may also just be a g'raha tia simp, idk.

At the start of Shadowbringers the Crystal Tower wasn't mandatory indeed. That had the added point that if you did NOT do the Tower raids the only option you would have been given is to 'remain silent'.

Think about it. if we knew who G'raha was and what he planned, what would we have done? We would have tried to stop him and both G'raha and Urianger both knew this would only result in us becoming a Lightwarden so they concocted this little play to make sure we wouldn't want to stop G'raha to save him

To be fair he was only part of the MSQ very briefly during Crystal tower from ARR. I had a hard time remembering too. Even if you played through everything in one go as a new player there's a lot to remember.
