My Collection: BLACK AMPHIBOLE AKA Hornblende
Including examples of Black Amphibole that can be collected on my Tours! 🤯 ⚒
While Black Amphibole specimens won't fetch you a pretty penny they are still absolutely gorgeous! In areas where they are plentiful they tend to get the bad wrap of being "tossers" but sometimes you can find stunningly shaped nice glossy and on occasion terminated crystals! For me that makes them very fun to hunt for! 😃
This is NOT a selling video. This is for rock appreciation and learning. VOLUME UP for info on Black Amphibole! ⚒
Neither my research nor I am perfect. If you have something to add please do so kindly in the comments. 💎

Great video! Me and a friend recently stumbled on an area full of very well formed and preserved hornblende crystals. We are returning this weekend to extract what we can. Though lacking in value or use, it is a beautiful mineral to admire

Can you please explain me about black diamond and Serendibite?

I don’t have either of those in my collection so I’m not likely to make a video on them. But I just googled them and both are very interesting. For more info on them check out Mindat. 😊🖤

I found a gorgeous piece of Horneblende last weekend at Tory Hill! I had a question for you- do you know if Hornblende is harmful to the lungs? I read that hornblende is a type of Amphibole which is same classification as asbestos. Any insight would help!

Hi David! Congrats on your gorgeous piece of Black Amphibole! They are really lovely from that locale. Amphibole minerals are only harmful if you are creating a dust with them and then inhaling the dust. They are perfectly safe in solid form and can be displayed in your collection without any worries. But if you are going to be cutting and polishing them, I would definitely wear a mask. I’d wear a mask when cutting and polishing any mineral. 😊💎⚒

Hi - how can you distinguish hornblende from tourmaline? I have a number of quartz/feldspar samples with black mineral that I can't ID as hornblende or tourmaline. Thanks

Schorl Tourmaline is a very deep pure black, Hornblende tends to be a murky earthy black. Tourmaline has a solid internal structure, blocky, or slightly granular internal structure. Hornblende has a fibrous inner structure. Feel free to send me photos for an opinion. Minerals@MalindaPrudhomme.com 😊💎🖤

They are not valuable at all, very common, and no market for them. :)
