Wow that little receiver sounds great! Hard to believe the circuit doesn't have any batteries except for the audio amp. Great story! Thanks for sharing and take care.

Fun little project and great story! You are lucky you kept from the bodily harm, haha.

Yes, that is working nicely. The simple design like that is good on sensitivity but not so good on selectivity. A "loose coupler" can get you selectivity at the cost of a little of the sensitivity. You may want to make one of those to continue your experiments. Double tuned systems give you better selectivity and possibly no loss of sensitivity. A tuned loop antenna experiment I did also worked out well. I suggest that for people who can't string antennas and grounds.

It does work well. Here is a 100 year old radio. Atwater Kent 10 Signal Flow and Circuit End to End 100 Years kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYKblZ2EZpp5apo

Great audio. No heterodyning so no oscillator whine while tuning. Interesting. Great story. Reminds me of bedtime battles with my brother. LOL Fun simpler times.

Great little circuit Rick. I grew up with an older sister who often threatened me as well. LOL

I've bought diodes with that part number from several sources which all claimed them to be authentic. (They are not) However I recently bought an old 300 in One Electronics Project Kit from a Goodwill store that has a genuine version of the diode included! These Project boxes were sold by Radio Shack and others and while the box is in tatters I found out the contents were 100 percent intact. I tried the first circuit in the included projects book and quickly learned why the kit was intact. There's no way a kid could have got it working as the built in switch for this project was faulty and the transistors included were different than the ones mentioned in the circuit diagrams. These were the days before the internet so a kid couldn't look the transistors up to figure out which one was similar to the one needed in the circuit. The kid that originally owned it probably got hung on that first project and gave up on the entire kit.

I made a video on that topic. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6qaemp9lMZmh9E My theory is that they sold you something like the 1N5711 pretending it is a 1N34. They can be made to work but you need to be sure to put the loading resistor on them.

Thank you! I bought my HeathKit breadboard new and it still is very useful. I have no idea how many projects I have built on it. It’s a lot of them!

Interesting Video. I would have like more detail regarding the Antenna and Ground.

Than you. A good earth ground is very important. A long (20 feet or more) elevated outside antenna is also important. After sunset is the best time to peck up distant stations. Hope this helps.

Is "threatened with bodily harm" translated from "I'll beat you up!"? Lol I remember the first time I built a crystal radio from junk parts, didn't even have a variable capacitor, just had a piece of wire that would glide over a sanded off portion of the coil. I was so amazed that sound could be heard from the piezo ear piece on a device that had no battery.

Hi, I don't know anything about crystal radio, but I have become more familiar with the principles of LC resonance and AM signals also with the help of an LC calculator. I build my own "crystal radio" circuit, I don't know if it will work. But my plan is Use materials like the following : - NOS USSR Germanium Diode (Vf 0.240Volts) that i bought On my local online shop platform there is no information, but in the review section from other buyers there are full positive responses, the advantage I see here is the low Vf Even though the diode was sold very cheaply and without any information. They had no idea how rare such diodes were. - a Crystal earpiece (unknown brands, Seller refuses to measure DC resistance/impedance/capacitance) - 1mH (1milliHenry) DrumCore Ferrite Inductor - Ceramic trimer (variable capacitor) 100pF, approximate minimum capacitance is 5 to 10pF - a parallel resistor/ceramic capacitor for Sound clarity (I will calibrate it depending on the capacitance of the crystal earpiece that I will buy later) - 20metres of 0,45mm Litz wire - soldered the ground wire to a metal rod, stabbed to a wet ground In the garden/Ricefield Near my house - an impedance matching Transformers (optimal) Yes, it is estimated that this circuit reaches a maximum frequency of around 1.596MHz ((if the ceramic trimer capacitance is 10pF) Let's just say 1.6 MHz or 1600kHz (All calculations use the LC calculator) Or 2.251MHz if the minimum capacitance of the ceramic trimer is 5pF. And at a maximum capacitance of 100pF, approximately the resonant frequency of this circuit is 503,292kHz. But this is just my plan, I have never made any type of radio before. But some AM stations are still active in my area, Some are 1.7km to 13km from my house. Question : would it works? I don't know whether a simple crystal radio is a simple LC resonance system or does it need other additions as a radio?

The home made coil in this video works very well. To make the tuning easier use a variable capacitor out of a old AM radio. I’ll be glad to help, ask your questions.

Hello, dear teacher. I follow your channel from Iran. I wanted to ask you a question... despite all the care I take in making the circuits and using the best parts... But I only manage to receive 2 or at least 3 radio stations. What to do to receive multiple radio stations with a crystal receiver?

How can a simple receiver interfere with a nearby receiver?
@matambale2 ай бұрын
Leakage from the local oscillator in the interfering radio, probably.
