Wow, it's a work of art. It looks like something HG Wells would have dreamed up.

So elegant looking crystal radio, wow !!!

What you point to in the photo is not a Marconi receiver - that was his induction coil transmitter. The 'balls' are the spark gap resonators.

Now that qualifies as a bonafide contraption.

Wow! What a set. More adjustments than I have seen before and never ever seen ground amplifier or the balls column. How about publishing a wiring diagram?
@brianbaird45732 жыл бұрын
I am assuming there is a battery for his amplifier, but the rest of it runs on radio energy harvested from the antenna. Now, I wonder if some of the modern low energy integrated circuit "energy harvesters" may be able to charge the battery while the radio is not being used, by storing the energy that would normally go to the speaker. Pair that up with a modern super efficient digital audio amplifier IC and you will not need batteries unless you plan on listening A LOT.

How do the copper coil structure work as a ground without connecting it to earth?

So the copper coil thing is a ground?

2:05 what is the copper screw thing that kent uses to hook up the antenna wire to the radio with? what is the technical term for it?
@JohnSmith-eo5sp5 жыл бұрын
5:00 He calls it the "Ground Plane" that "intensifies the Ground Force" - - doesn't make sense to me either

The radio doesn't need power, but the LM386 amplifier would have to...

Kennynva : correct. I was scratching my head over this. Pure crystal radios use electricity, as you know, from the antenna. Pretty set, but...smh

0:41 Oh that is kind of cheating isn't it? A True Crystal Set is a passive receiver! But if you need an audio pre-amp then you could have acquired an excellent one for such purposes from Radio Shack! It too was built around the LM386, and came with its own RCA connector cable. I don't know if they are still being produced, but no doubt it has a replacement model made in China
@baikushex0et6822 жыл бұрын
Well he has headphones But if he wants to demonstrate it It needs an audio amp.
@ronalddaub79654 жыл бұрын
You can use all that stuff without all the IC chips he just went all out
