Thank you Mr. Terry. I really hope I passed. I tried to answer all my question, but there was some parts that were tricky for me, and being that I self-studied I got a bit nervous. Thank goodness for your videos that helped with my understanding. I await the results and based on what I get I will make the next move.

How did you come up with the formulas? I don't know that I'd be able to do this in an exam without prior knowledge.

This question will always be a challenge for students. You have to be able to spot patterns and that doesn't come that easily.

CSEC Math students can prepare for this type of question by first studying arithmetic and geometric sequences. Next, they should work through all questions of this type from past CSEC Math papers. Examine the given sequence carefully for a common difference or common ratio. If there is none of these two, then try thinking in terms of powers of two or three. Note that these sequence questions ask students to derive two different formulas that relates three different sets of given information. In this question, they are figure number, number of knots and number of strings. Solving these types of questions can be quite satisfying.

Sir I don’t understand, The problem stated that for every 1 knot is = 3 strings.

Number of strings the formula is 2n+1-1

it would have been 4×3+1 is the number that comes before the figure thats what u times it by then add one to it

There is no easy way to teach this topic. Its a problem solving question that CXC wants you figure out. I would advise doing this question last since you may waste a lot of time doing it.

you can also say log 254 divided by 2 to get 7 or In 254 divided by In 2 to get 7.

Yeah but this is not required for CSEC Maths....Add Maths most definitely.

If I had done this exam it would have been the last question for sure. I've see the latest math syllabus and all questions are going to be compulsory now. They will also have to do an SBA. I wonder how this is going to affect performance.
