What was the spray for on the top of the ship ? I'm guessing it's something to do with the cargo, thanks for sharing

The water is sprayed on deck to reduce stress on the hull on hot days. The bottom third of the hull is sitting in relatively cool water while the deck is baking in direct sunlight. Over the length of a 740 ft long ship the difference due to expansion caused by heat can be substantial. The top of the hull ends up being longer than the bottom. Spraying the water (taken from the lakes or canal) can cool the deck and reduce the stress. This also explains a lot of the vertical rust streaks on many hulls. The water sprayed on the deck picks up minor rust from the deck and deposits it on the sides of the hull. I hope this answered your question, and thanks for watching!
