UNIT II : Physical layer: Line encoding, block encoding, scrambling, modulation demodulation (both analog and digital), errors in transmission, multiplexing (FDM, TDM, WDM, OFDM, DSSS), Different types of transmission media. Data Link Layer services: framing, error control, flow control, medium access control. Error & Flow control mechanisms: stop and wait, Go back N and selective repeat. MAC protocols: Aloha, slotted aloha, CSMA, CSMA/CD, CSMA/CA, polling, token passing, scheduling
