Used to work for CSX in the Fulton yard near Rockett’s Landing, lived down the road from there too in Richmond’s Eastern Henrico, County. I’ve heard NOTHING ABOUT THIS....crazy

I live a couple miles from there and bike along the north bank trail right beside the tracks. Cant believe that's the second derailment in that location in 2 months and the third in RVA

I cant believe that this is like the 3rd time that a train derailed on these tracks 1st was a mixed freight, 2nd outside Fulton yard, and a 3rd at the same place as the 1st one I'm wondering how many more trains are gonna derail on these tracks who knows

Longer trains w/the increased potential to derail, fewer personnel in the yards & less time to properly put a train together (it goes out NOW!, less track personnel & money for track maintenance, & tired train crews

Accident happened. Trains are no different. Maybe the load was too heavy for the curve it was approaching. But, they will put every effort in the clean up. I'm sure of that.

Cranemaster LLC and Genesis Derailment Division were the crews that were working on this cleanup. Correct, this train, T20622, was Thurmond, WV to Newport News, VA.

No, the sidings along the Piedmont and Mountain are not long enough to facilitate meets with westbounds. Most sidings were built long enough to fit passenger trains for the C&O RY in the 30s and 40s.

Its a pretty flat route on the rivanna route. This derailment is just outside of fulton yard. This area get flood water like crazy. You should see how crappy the tracks are in acca yard.

Trains go way too fast for the loads they are carrying.Tracks are always in use.Are the tracks maintaiined to support the amount of traffic on them.These train companies have to meet deadlines .The Government talks about faster trains. Infrastructure funding can go into the safety and upgrading of tracks .

The cause is still unknown at this time, but most likely poor train handling/accelerating too quickly around the tight curves.

This line is seeing less and less service as world wide need for coal drops ...the bridge thru Richmond is close to 100 years old and has a 10 MPH 20 car limit ...chances of reinvestment are slim.

While the bridge is old most of the bridge was redone in 1955 by the C&O RY and is kept in good shape by CSX, and there is no car limit for the bridge.

The views of the derailed cars were from Hollywood Cemetery, and the cranes and other equipment was down at a crossing 0.3 miles east of the derailment.

Also looking at national statistics for train accidents/derailments began their uptick around the same time as the video suggests - corroborating the report. There was also an AP article this year in April/May that reported a reduction in staff by 22%. Fewer ppl, longer trains, less time to inspect, longer hours leading to fatigue, greater chance for mistakes that lead to accidents.

Actually, all of the coal that goes to Newport News, VA is transferred onto ships and shipped to other countries to use to generate electricity.
