During the 1916 flood they lined up cars on the railway beside the Catawba River to help hold the tracks in place. Tracks and train are in the lake to this day.

Crazy.. Looks just like one of those old abandoned railways that are far out west.. Poor rail guys have their work cut out for them.. Everyone stay safe on the repair job.. From Lansing, Michigan. Wishing everyone a great weekend.

It is really going to be something to see how they get the tracks out of these gorges. I hope they choose to repair and just not forget the old and re-route.

MY GRAND FATHER, LLOYD E HEDRICK OF CATAWBA COUNTY NC TOLD ME STORIES OF THIS EVENT! HE AND HIS TWO BROTHERS WORKED FOR THE SOUTHERN RR TO REBUILD THE RR BACK TO MT MITCHELL AREA AND SALUDA MOUNTAIN. I AM NOW 74, AND NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD EVER SEE AN EVENT LIKE THIS IN MY LIFETIME! HEART BREAKING....DOES NOT EVEN COME CLOSE...........

This is stuff we all need to document. This is extremely historical for our area. Thank you for sharing. I can only imagine what him and his two brothers could share. I am very intrigued by the correlation of past events.

Incredible destruction . Recovery and rebuilding will take decades , not months or years . The bright side is what has been revealed , but , it's a bitter price to pay . Stay safe .

Thank you . I just fixed it. The RockHounding will begin once we get this mess cleaned up. So many new things have been uncovered. I have had to keep my eyes forward for a change instead of looking down to get through this one.
