Great video! I love working on the mechanisms in this series of Pioneer decks. My personal deck (CT-F1250) was rescued from the crusher and it sounds fantastic.

@@codyshive I think I've rehabilitated either 4 or 5 of the FF/REW motors. Thank goodness for loupe glasses!

I find rebuilding motors on any of the decks I resurrect is not only the right thing to do, but a must-do. Even decks from other manufacturers were using some of the same OEM motors. Once you get used to pulling them apart, it's nothing to clean the stator and brushes and then add a bit of high-speed bearing grease to breathe life for the next 50 years (if they hang around that long).

Sorry, I don't know the size for the idler tire. I source my replacement kit from vintage-electronics.net. They have the most accurate belts and tires I've found, although I have occasionally found excellent kits on eBay as well.

Oh, I hate to criticize your video, because that's such an awesome tape deck! But, if someone goes solely by what you showed and said, they're not going to get the optimal sound out of it. It looks like you have the meters in average mode, and in that mode you need to make sure the meters NEVER go above 0db. When you adjust the bias and tape type, you need to set them and switch between tape and source multiple times before adjusting again. The goal is to have the tape sound exactly like the source, or as close as possible. These are not tone controls, they are fine adjustments designed to make your recording indistinguishable from the original. Once they are set up properly, there is no need to rewind and play back, as you already listened to your recording when you selected the tape monitor. Otherwise, you did a great job restoring it; it looks and sounds fantastic even on those inferior tapes!
