On April 6th, 2024, the Illinois Railway Museum brought back its annual "Snowflake Special" event for the first time since the pandemic. The Snowflake Special is an IRM tradition that dates back to 1958 in which the museum rents a special CTA train to offer ticket holders an exclusive trip across the Chicago 'L' system. This year, a $60 fare gave hundreds of transit enthusiasts a trip on the Congress, Midway, Ravenswood, and both north and south side elevated lines aboard CTA's Heritage Fleet 2400-series cars and 4 cars of 2600-series work motors for extra capacity. The purpose of these fan trips is to help raise funds for the museum to continue its preservation of old transit and railroad equipment.
Enjoy this unique perspective of this special trip throughout that day, both from the ground and from the air! Special thanks to all who collaborated in the making of this video and those who made it all possible.
