This video explains easy steps to propagate Ctenanthe lubbersiana in water from cuttings. This plant is also called as Bamburanta and Ctenanthe, Never Never and Golder Mosaic) Plant Propagation in water
Blog/ Written version: homemakr.org/2...
It is super easy to propagate Ctenanthe in both soil and water. I prefer water propagation as roots formation is clearly visible. You must look for a stem with cluster of leaves with nodes as shown in the video. Cut that stem and dip it in water. You can separate the different nodes if you want or leave it as cluster, its your choice. After few weeks you can see tiny roots coming out from the nodes (as shown in the video). You can do the same while propagating in soil. Just make sure that the soil remains moist and well drained till the roots develop.

Thank you so much! I was hating mine and thought it was growing “ugly”. I had no idea that these could be propagated like this! I just fell in love with it all over again ! I was literally on the verge of getting rid of it tomorrow

Hello from New Zealand :) we don't get to see many of these plants here but I am about to buy one from a seller & it looks like I need to propagate it as the main stem is very long! Thank you for the very helpful video. And wish me luck! Would you recommend leaving the propagation in a warm room with less direct sun?

Hi there, Thank you so much and Best of Luck 👍😊. Yes, After taking the cutting, place them in water and keep them in a nice warm spot that receives enough bright light instead of low light. I keep my propgated cuttings in lau dry room where it receives bright light as well as warm humid condition that these plants absolutely love. 🌿😊

I placed mine in water and the leaves have started to curl, do you know why?
@Homemakr
@Homemakr 7 ай бұрын
May be their roots are not developed. Once the roots develop, the leaves will stop curling.

I repotted and all the leaves curled ... I've tried everything - I've watered, moved closer to humidifier ..... its been a week and they are not uncurling ... will they? thank you! great video! I'm going to propagate the if they will uncurl!
@Homemakr

@Dylan Kendall, Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, they will uncurl. After repotting, these plants do curl up their leaves. Once the plant settles in the new soil environment, it will start uncurling its leaves. Ctenanthes react quickly to every change including temperature, soil, water, humidity. They will be fine once they adjust themselves to the new conditions.

@@Homemakr I thought that could be the reason! one more question (and thank you!) the plant is leggy so I'd like to propagate - 1. should I wait now that the plant was just repotted and curling and 2. If I cut the leaves clusters at the node and leave the existing rooted stem in the pot, will that stem produce new leaves or will I have a pot of "sticks"! 😁😂

Do these propagate best in distilled water and also be watered with distilled water?

You can use normal tap water or rain water as well. They can propagate easily. I used normal tap water to propagate them.

Yes they do best in distilled water.
