just fyi for anyone that finds, just both arm both tracks at the same time and you won't have to play the song back just to record the full midi chord sequence into your Synth track
@nicebluejay8 жыл бұрын
no, in logic pro x you can just open cthulu as a midi effect, like any of the other stock logic midi effects. it's very easy, no need to go into the environment anymore. also, in logic you can't get the individual notes coming out of cthulu which is lame but there is a free plug in called midi effects freeze (just google it) that will transform the single notes into chords/or notes for further manipulation.
@nicebluejay8 жыл бұрын
yeah, it's much better now. it's funny, i used digital performer for a long time and then switched to logic x, so i never used any earlier versions of logic. thus, i have never needed to go into the environment, like ever. which is good, because, frankly it confuses me.
@nicebluejay8 жыл бұрын
plus the midi effects freeze plug in is a must have, check it out
@MikeAcostaOfficial8 жыл бұрын
I agree, when i first loaded it in Logic Pro X like 2 years ago you had enable the IAC buss and then use the environment which introduced a lot of latency. Im glad there are some better options now though.

I wonder whether you would consider a follow up on this amazing tutorial as I think there is so much more to share about this excellent device. For instance, while you were experimenting with chords in Cthulu, I could see the name of the chord generated by your single key press displayed to the left of the virtual keyboard. Meanwhile, the names of other chords were displayed above the virtual keyboard. Were those related to the chord you had triggered? Were they recommendations from Cthulu for chords to follow on? How would you play those specific chords? Personally, I am hugely excited abou Cthulu but have yet to really dive in. Your demo is a start, although personally I have no real interest in the genres you demonstrated, I think it could lead to some inspiring ballad melodies

Excellent! I haven't the time to make up my own chords, as I'm still chord-challenged and didn't have the time to put them together myself...so I was really glad to see this video appeared "recommended" in my KZbin feed. I've had Cthulhu for awhile, but it sat on my computer. I only rediscovered it a few months ago, with the knowledge that I could use it in Logic X as a MIDI FX instead of having to set it up in the Environment. With this pack, which I bought last night and just briefly tried out, this is gonna be super cool! And also, +1 for MIDI FX Freeze for getting those chords. I am actually using another chord application, so this will be complimentary, especially for quickly capturing ideas. Thank you!

Just a note for people without any musical theory knowledge or experience, essentially what you're doing is painting a picture with pre done little cutouts. On their own they look nice but you as an artist dont know how to put then together to get a well compossed picture in the end. Make sure to understand progressions of chords and the goal of the chords. Its no use having a library of chords if you yourself dont know where you're going with it. The more people disagree with this statement the more empty music without personality we will have. The easy path leads to less love and joy in making music.

+ADSR Music Production Tutorials Good idea, although there are some errors in the music theory you programmed this with. In a preset that is supposed to be in Bbm (B flat minor) the chords that appear in Cthulhu's thought bubble appear in # (sharps) and some chords are erroneously labeled for example: F7 (F Dominant 7) appears as (Fmajor7) which are two very different type of chords. This is pretty annoying since you're selling this, therefore I was expecting at least the theory to be right.

@AChi__4 жыл бұрын
Just wondering, did you ever consider coming up with a chord progression with Cthulhu, then chopping that chord progression and then rerecording a new chord progression with the newly chopped samples from the chord progression, and then adding some effects to try and season it to your liking and to come up with something more creative as opposed to just using the chord progression you created with cthulhu? If you've never tried this, give it a try and you might be surprised with what you'll creatively come up with. Good luck.

There is a bank called Deep House chords in the pack. Ultimately you can apply these chords to right kind of sound (Rhodes, Wurly, analog pads etc) and you've got some soulful chords if you play them in the right progression. Hope that helps.

@@benbrooker You're are right, but the chord progressions they use are quite simple... And that if they use a chord progression at all... What you need to know to build those progressions isn't that much... And regarding the scales... you could use triads + 7th...

Whats wrong with making life easy for people, it's not cutting corners, it's just computerizing the whole process. If we are to follow what you are saying, we might aswell just play live instruments instead of using the computer.
