I briefly played drums and percussion with the great Andy Statman (subbing for the regular drummer), a protege of Mr. Tarras. This is wonderful - I didn’t realize there was any video or film footage existing of Mr Tarras. Thank you for this. -GREG BURROWS

I am a midi accordionist who was taught by the great Sammy Beckerman the accordionist seen in this video. Dave Tarras’s wife grew up with my uncle Max Axelrod. Dave got me Sammy’s phone number. I am forever greatful to Sammy and Dave without whom I would not be a professional accordionist, dj, singer and entertainer for over fifty-seven years and still performing.

Two questions: 1.What accordion is he playing in this video? 2.Is there a method for klezmer accordion?

I thought so. People sometimes call Shlumke "Sam", but Dad said "Sam Beckerman was somebody else, who played the tzimbal (Hammer dulcimer). How was he related to Shlumke and Harry Beckerman (Harry was my grandpa)?

I learned how to play klezmer accordion by copying many of Tarras' tricks...he is the guy who " wrote the book "on this style of music....just great. I wish I could have sang with him

Beautiful video! Thanks for posting this legendary concert! The title of the cut at 18:25 is "Monti's Czardas", also called "Csardas Monti". Sam Beckerman announces the title quite clearly although he describes it as Tsigayner muzik.

And, if I'm not mistaken, introducing the band was Andy Statman, today's foremost klezmer clarinetist and mandolinist. He studied with Tarras and now plays Tarras' old ax.
