Really. Guess Canada Post should have signed a contract then. Doesnt matter. Management will make large bonuses on the money they saved not paying workers for a month. I wonder how many CUPW members died when Canada Post cut off their life saving drugs. Doesnt matter as long as you all get your packages.

We should protest against the Union. Unions are only looking out after themselves. Every worker gives them a percentage of their wage, no wonder they are not happy. Canada Post belongs to Canadians not Unions. If they are asking for an obscene amount of pay hike and benefits, guess what? - This means service will cost Canadians more for every postage and parcel. Fight for a better HR department instead and get rid of the useless Union - Unions can be fired you know.

Employees working for governmental crucial public service organizations are at a disadvantage when it comes to collective bargaining. Striking may work temporarily but long term the citizens will turn against the union and perceived power ( at Christmas time ) becomes a serious negative when bargaining for wages and benefits. Management knows this. They will offer what they can and then wait you out. Expecting great gains in wages and benefits as a result of this strike is unrealistic in my opinion. Sad but true.

The problem unions are facing, is that these companies now know that they don't need to come to the negotiation table. Just wait it out, and the government will legislate the workers back. This is exactly what Dubai did with the longshore workers. Every other company had already signed a deal. Dubai wouldn't, unless Canada eroded worker's rights. When ordered back to the table, Dubai said no, and waited for legislation. We'll be seeing a lot more of this in the coming years.

If CUPW believe it's a constitutional right to strike, then they should continue to exercise it regardless of what the government says. They won't because they're a bunch of crybullies, but if they believe they have a valid constitutional challenge, then they should proceed with their challenge rather than complaining about government interventions.

They want to work! Badly! They don’t want to stand outside in the cold for 4hrs a day making only $54. They can’t live off that. And coming the 19th the union is going to stop paying workers. I feel bad for my single friends who have to pay $1,800 for rent and don’t have the money. Plus food, bills and it’s Christmas. They have been looking for other jobs but can’t get anything. The union is screwing them.

Asking for crazy increases while the company they work for is losing more and more money every year (largest expense is salaries) and saying they want to restrict the company making any changes to improve its profitability. They're totally disconnected from reality, no one in Canada is on the union's side. Get back to work.

Why? The post office operates in the negative for years. They are never going to get more out of the government. To be honest I have zero sympathy for them. Governemnt workers are paid higher wages and better benefits than most jobs in the private sector. And realistically their are private sector jobs that are magnitudes harder and more vital that dont come close to what Postal workers get. If you dont like what you get nothing stopping them from looking for another job if they dont like what they get.
