NANAIMO -- A ground breaking medical study has revealed smokers who quit while they are still under the age of 40 can live almost as long as people who have never lit up a cigarette.
The results came from a study conducted at Toronto's St. Michael Hospital. Researchers say that "those that had quit smoking even by age 40 decrease their risk of dying or developing serious disease by 90 per cent."
The study also concluded that smoking cuts 10 years off a person's lifespan. But quitting before the age of 40 can regain almost all of lost years.
Some doctors fear this study will send the wrong message for teenage smokers, who could take the results as a free pass.
