Profe, just one more question, do you happen to know ?. - What are the requirements to be selected a juror or to be called jury duty ?. And WHO selects them or call them ?. Thanks in advance for the answers profe 👍.
@EnSimplesPalabras6 ай бұрын
You just have to be a citizen older than 18, not convicted of a felony. I was summoned for jury duty probably 7 times. They pick you at random. You attend a meeting at the court where the potential jurors are waiting in case they are called to be assigned to a case. If they call you, you'll be asked a lot of questions by the attorneys from a certain case. If they feel you are ideal to be a juror for their case, you are selected (as you can imagine, most people don't want to be part of a jury so they play dumb when it comes to answer their questions). I was part of a jury once. The trial lasted 5 days, 5 hours each day. I didn't like the experience. I'll probably make a video telling that story in detail.

@@EnSimplesPalabras Thank you very much for the explanation profe now I've already got an idea what it's like to be part of a jury 👍.

"Not guilty" can also be translated as "inocente" or "innocent", right profe ?.

Hi profe, it's me again, just two more questions profe that I forgot to ask you; - What happens if you don't accept to be part of a jury ?. And. - Who calls and appoints you to be part of a jury ?. Thanks in advance again for answering.
@EnSimplesPalabras6 ай бұрын
The state you're living in sends you a letter. It's mandatory and you should go to court on the appointed day. There must be a way of letting them know that you can't attend. One way to avoid being picked is by answering stupid answers to their questions. They want to select the smartest people.
@fredylopez24775 ай бұрын
@@EnSimplesPalabras Thanks a lot for answering profe and for clearing up. And do you go to jail or prison if you don't accept ?, without answering stupid answers to their questions. Thanks in advance again for answering profe. 👍.

@EnSimplesPalabras5 ай бұрын
@fredylopez24776 ай бұрын
Profe, in the example: - "After spending 2 years in JAIL, he was released on parole". Shouldn't it be ?. - "After spending 2 years in PRISON , he was released on parole". # I understand that PRISON is the place where they put you when you were sentenced. # A JAIL is the place where they put you while they decide whether you go to a trial or not. Or, Am I wrong profe ?. Thanks in advance for answering. 👍.
@EnSimplesPalabras6 ай бұрын
Technically yes, it should be "in prison". But people sometimes use both "jail" and "prison" interchangeably.

Profe como se dice hace rato que no te veo, será it's been a while since I don't see you?
@EnSimplesPalabras6 ай бұрын
@fredylopez24775 ай бұрын
You could also say and I think it's a little bit more correct: "It's been a long time (a while) SINCE I LAST SAW YOU". I think the expression "I don't see you" doesn't fit.
@fredylopez24776 ай бұрын
I'm a little confused profe, I undertand that the ONLY function of the grand jury is to declare whether the defendant is guilty or not guilty according to evidence and in the example you texted: -Él fue ACUSADO formalmente por el GRAN JURADO de malversación de fondos. = He was INDICTED by the GRAND JURY for embezzlement. Are ACCUSING and INDICTING other functions of the Grand Jury ?.
@EnSimplesPalabras6 ай бұрын
The grand jury only decides if a case proceeds. Then, a trial follows. At the trial, another jury will decide the fate of the defendant.
@fredylopez24776 ай бұрын
@@EnSimplesPalabras Oh, ok, so there are two different juries, thanks for clearing up profe. 👍.
