Context for that shot at 4:16, Blanco had already been retired for some time. After nearly two years since competing professionally and having already started his political career and being elected mayor, he had a surprise farewell game organized by club America. Not just any old friendly game, though.. They gave him the opportunity of retiring with a competitive league game. After no physical activities during his political endeavors, being 43 years old and gaining quite a few kgs of weight, He trained vigorously for moths leading up to that week 9 matchup vs Morelia. He wore jersey number 100 in honor of club America 100th anniversary that year and played the first 36 mins, giving a sold out stadium an incredible performance considering the circumstances. That crossbar denied what would have been the cherry on top of a legendary career.

Despite not having success in Europe , he did pretty good in domestic league. He was Mexico’s number 10 , personally top 3 at national level top 5 Mexican best players of all times. Best characteristics was that he played very well under pressure. A lot of people don’t like him but he was very skillful compared to todays Mexican league. Best # 10 of Mexico in history .

Born and Raised in the most dangerous hood in Mexico City, Tepito He gave Mexico the Confederations Cup in 99 vs Brazil He punched a very famous Mexican reporter for calling his mom fat He missed Germany 06 bc he mocked and taunted the head coach after scoring He played in Libertadores with America where he was told he would be killed in Colombia if he played, he played and scored a hat trick and taunted them He had a 97% efficiency in PK’s (71/73) Not the best looking guy but his girlfriends were models / TV Actresses He played in Chicago Fire & for a couple years he single handedly filled the stadium with Mexicans in the States coming to see him play, I was there. When he played with Mexico no matter what team you rooted for, we all rooted for Cuauh, He was from the people, by the people, for the people Adidas & Nike wanted to sign him but he remained loyal to Mexican brand Concord for being with him from the start He invented the “Cuauhteminha” and executed it against the North Koreans, Italians, and Dutch who looked down on him like the majority of the world looks down on Mexico He truly captured the essence of the Mexican people, The last Aztec Emperor, Cuauhtemoc

He played until really really old! lol he was slow af but his vision and passed and leadership made him an important player. He played in the MLS around 07-08 something like that. He played in la liga but a major injury took him away from the pitch for a bit, since then his speed was never the same. Such a legend! A lot of people hate him or hated him at club level cause he was provocative and a polemic individual, funny af! He made a goal celebration like a dog peeing on the rivals goal 🤣 The jumping skill is called “Cuautemiña” or “cuauteminha”

Awesome seeing you react to a lot of Mexican futbol fans’ biggest idol! (Including me) When you think impact and leadership Cuauhtemoc embodied that and more for our National Team. Another reason he’s either loved or hated is that while a lot of Mexican players have gone pro due to money, favors, family connections etc., Blanco became the legend that he is with raw talent, nothing was ever given to him on a silver platter.

I grew up watching Temoc, and he always was and is my fav Mexican player. His passing ability was IMMACULATE, wherever he set his eyes, he put the ball. He wasn’t the most fit, or the fastest player, but he always had a trick up his sleeve. 🇲🇽🔥

@@marcelizalde1292,okay well I stand corrected. But yeah it makes sense because he would had of been a DP signing and of course any team could use the new rule. No different than any team can do what teams like LAFC or Inter Miami are doing in today's roster rules.

The highlight doesn't do him justice. He was playing in Spain but got a serious knee injury playing for Mexico from a horrible tackle that changed his career. He scored against Real Madrid on one of those free kicks in the highlight in the Bernabeu for Valladolid just before he got hurt. A few big clubs wanted to sign him come summer that year.
