If you check out xtreme clutch videos they show how critical torque of the pto bolt is to life of clutch. Not sure if just impacting it on is the right thing to do.

This may be coming late for you but I own a 1046vt mower without any spring. On my mower the belt keeper for the deck belt must travel through the notch to hold the pto clutch from rotating.. Cub Cadet does not make that clear in my instructions so initially I stupidly replaced the belt keeper randomly positioned and eventually it snapped the wires shutting down the pto. I am sure many out there did the same. Mine had no back up spring to hold it in place as you are describing on your 50 inch model. Mine was also a 2010 model. That was the first and last time I made that mistake.

Can I replace the wiring plug if their is not enough wire?

What's a good way to test the clutch when it's out of the lawn mower? 12V battery?
