Excellent video! Just came back from Cuba and it was amazing ! Here's a few of my tips: Must visit "Plaza de la Revolution" where Che's face is stamped on the building along with Castro's, thats where you'll find a lot of old vintage cars too. People are too friendly and helpful. Felt safe at all times. Exchange dollars to Euros before your trip, exchange to CUC once at the airport. You can exchange it back to Euros if you have any money left at the end of your visit. If you hire an old cab, be aware that sometimes its normal for them to have another "driver" with them, this happened several times on my trip. Everything was ok. But i didn't know what the deal was having his friend along for the ride. Varadero is a must, amazing beaches, 1 hour 45 min from Havana in a cab. Worth the ride. Do it. Night Club? Go to Sarao's. amazing place, great music, beautiful Cuban women. Staff was very friendly. Great and extremely cheap restaurant "El Biky" modern deco, food plates were huge, prices were ridiculous low and the staff, as always, friendly. Wifi and internet is a nightmare in Cuba. You have to buy internet pre-paid cards that lasts like 30/40 min. And you need to go to any park or plaza to get a good signal ,you can't miss it, you'll see a lot of locals with their phones there. And lastly, Don't fly Spirt Airlines, Fly JetBlue. Trust me.

SergioMZA: Why don't fly Spirit? looks like they stopped offering flights to Cuba, but I still want to know. Thanks for the tips, I'm seriously considering visiting Cuba.
@SergioMZA7 жыл бұрын
The problem with Spirt was that all seats do not recline, non do. They are very uncomfortable. And they will charge you extra for a carry-on. And its also the only airline that doesn't offer VISAs at the airport. We came back on JetBlue, and it was amazing. Go to Cuba, its worth the trip! Enjoy!

LaNoire27 I flew Spirit to Havana and it wasn't bad! My friends and I spilt the price of one check in luggage . The visa can be purchased with a 3rd party for $75.. everything went smoothly at the airport. And I live in Florida so it was only like a 1.5 hour flight from Ft.Lauderdale

This video is AWESOME! Thank you so much for mentioning me! Sorry that happened with your phone. For the most part, Cuba is incredibly safe and the people are very nice. That is definitely something that does not happen often. The reason people love going to the Malecon at night is because it is much cooler there by the sea and most people don't have air at home and it can get incredibly hot in Cuba!
@PotatoJet7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Romina! Yeah, you're right, Cuba's super safe with close to zero violent crime from what I heard, just the occasional petty theft. I'd say it's a good idea to keep a close eye on your belongings, but it's nothing to be concerned with. I wish I was able to record the interaction I had with the thief, he was very polite and wasn't aggressive at all.. The opposite of what I've seen in movies.... lol! Interesting point about the Malecon, I didn't know that but it makes perfect sense, it had an amazing consistent sea breeze. I could've spent all day there!

Just happened by, wanted to say the best way to learn Cuba is using a local guide not a Cuban government guide but a local that makes a few dollars. First trip I met a guy who showed me all around Cuba. We are good friends now I know his family extended family. having a local with you keeps all the scammers away, they think if you have a Cuban with you he has already taken all the money they won't step on toes. When I walk around alone I waste a ton of time messing with people who want to show me a place where they make a commission when I have my friend with me half the time they think I live in Cuba.

Went in January. It was amazing. Hemingway's house but it had guides when I went. Be careful with the hotels, they may be government owned. Americans still cant "vacation" in Cuba. Use the "serving the Cuban people" option on your visa. I stayed in a 4 bed 4 bath Air BNB that came with breakfast. My group split the cost, so that was like 500. My flight out of Chicago was 290 (that includes all the fees). Visa was 85. Spending money I did 600 USD converted to Euro (490) and then to CUC and got back about 640 CUC. I was there 5 days. Also go to the Floridita, I tobacco farms, the cigar factory, and the 4 squares in old havana

My 24 yr old son and I went April 2017 for 10 days and fell in love with Cuba. What I would recommend is plan plan plan and what I mean is lodging accommodations. We visited different areas each day and due to no more than 2 nights at a time rooms available, we relocated almost every night and found out a lot of other tourists was having to do the same thing. The other is check the weather forecast. April was humid and warm but was manageable. I can't imagine July or August months due to extreme heat. So plan ahead!!

Loved the video, being cuban my self it gives me another perspective. If you travel from florida, the airplane ticket is around $200 and visa its $70 dollars, so you can save a bit more. Everything else is very cheap. Just one tip since I saw what happened with the guy trying to steal your phone. Don't wear any jewelry if you stay in Havana, and always have your wallet and phone on your front pockets. Varadero is very touristic, but you should go there because of the beaches, they are amazing. But if you want something very cultural, urban and local, you should go to Valle Viñales, its a bit far from Havana, but its worth. There you can smoke hand made cigars, organic honey, real cuban coffee, visit caves, very good local food, the best views (landscape), horse riding, etc. Hope this helps!

Awesome! I went to Cuba in March for 5 days! I would definitely recommend -Fábrica de Arte.. but go there at night because it turns into a club (it's a blast we went 2 nights in a row) and was only like 3 CUC to get in! - Be careful to not get ripped off by the taxis like we did :( you can pretty much negotiate with them - The locals are super friendly and nice but beware of the ones that try to sell you cigars on the street (we ended up in a hot sketchy apartment forced to purchase cigars) -Air Bnb is the way to go! They are every where and super cheap and affordable, I recommend staying in Old Havana -Souvenirs are also very cheap so make sure you don't spend more than you have to - If you have time check out vinales valley, it's 2.5 hours away from Havana but makes for an awesome day trip of horseback riding, cool caves, tobacco fields, and cool bars

I went to Cuba in 2006. The last place you mention (next to Copellia) was the last place I visited. And it had me, almost, break in tears. It was Sunday morning and I said to myself, what the hell, I am going to walk the streets of Havana and get some nice going away photos. I stabled upon this rotonda that you depict in your video and I saw literally, hundreds of people, all dressed up, waiting in line on all four corners of the rotonda. Being a cocky arrogant European I cut the lines and went straight in. A Cuban policeman tried to stop me but when I said I was a tourist he let me get in. What I found out (at least that is what they told me) was that this place was sponsored by the government and every Havana citizen was entitled to one scoop of ice cream every Sunday. And these people that you depict, talking to one another while sitting on tall stools, were probably, complete strangers. Every time, anyone of them consumed their ice cream scoop, a policeman would go up to them and "ordered" them to get up so that somebody else would sit and enjoy their Sunday luxury. They would talk to one another as if they were friends, until someone else sit down and talk to them instead. I left almost teary-eyed.

lmao, I got the guy with my wallet in his hand. Its super safe in Cuba but they will try to steal from you if you are distracted. I think you paid too much for the airbnb. I paid for two people what you paid per person. 59 dollars a night total. The Malecon was cool and glad to see you drinking Presidente which is actually the National beer of my country Dominican Republic.
@soniasilva49786 жыл бұрын
Tony Caro they paid 159$ in total for 3 people, 4 nights. That gives 53$ each, for the 4 nights. I think you got that wrong...and i would say you were the one paying too much because on average a night at a casa particular will be 25-30cuc for the room (does not matter if one or two or sometimes even 3 people share it). So he actually got a really good bargain on a 2 bedroom flat!
@MattSezer7 жыл бұрын
You could easily spend less than half than what you did, but if you take into account how short of a time when you were there, it wouldn't be worth it. You can save so much by buying things in Cuban Pesos instead of CUCs. I spent virtually nothing when I spent a semester studying there.
@PotatoJet7 жыл бұрын
How did you get Cuban Pesos? I heard they sometimes give you hard time if you're a tourist spending Pesos, is that true?
@MattSezer7 жыл бұрын
You go to a currency exchange. The ones near the hotels sometimes won't do it, but everywhere else will, or at least they did 5 years ago. I was on a student visa and was given a temporary resident Cuban ID card, which legally entitled me to use Cuban pesos, but I never had to resort to showing it. Occasionally, I'd see prices in CUCs that I thought were too high in restaurants and I'd get them to get me a menu in pesos, where things were much less.
@camillomancini56196 жыл бұрын
@@MattSezer how much money do I need to live in cuba for one month if I won't use cuc but the other currency please reply
@MattSezer6 жыл бұрын
Some things like casa particulares, the exit fee, and alcohol I believe are mostly if not always in cucs, so it's literally impossible to not spend cucs as a foreigner. It really depends on what you're doing for the month, but some common prices I found are: (30-50cup for a meal with rice, beans, and meat), (10cup for a taxi that follows a set route with multiple passengers), and (8 cup for a movie). Again, I don't know what you'd be planning to do, but I feel it would be pretty easy to live in Cuba for a month as a tourist staying in casa particulars on around $1,000 USD, not including airfare, if you budgeted properly.
@soniasilva49786 жыл бұрын
Potato Jet hey I know this is one year late but if you ever go back, you can get cuban pesos at any cadeca or bank and you can totally use it as a tourist. There are no restrictions. The only thing is most things aimed at tourists, the prices will be in CUC. And you will notice there are different prices for cubans and tourists in mostly everything. Some restaurants even have 2 different menus, one in cup that they hand out to cubans and another in cuc which is given to tourists. But nothing forbids you from eating in a cup priced restaurant, or taking a shared taxi for 10cup. Most tourists don’t bother because they are there for only a short while and don’t want to be bored by using two different currencies and it’s just easier to stick with the cuc’s.

One Tip. When you plan a trip to cuba Convert your Money to Swiss Francs (chf is the symbol) When you convert them to CUC (cuba's tourist money) you lose NOTHING in coversion. You lose money from usd to chf, but you gain it back converting chf to CUC. So it becomes a wash conversion.

great video. I'm going next month with my friend. We were told it's carnaval season. I just wish I could find more videos related to carnaval and Cuba's nightlife.

Positive view of Cuba especially regarding food. Local food is better than resort food, it seems.

Ok, I can tell there are things in Cuba of interest, but I'm not that guy. I'm also not one who travels outside the US much. I did recently go to Mexico. Mecico city overnight then on to Puerto Vallarta. Highly recommend. Airfare was the biggest expence. Just wanted to share.

You are super positive, with the attempted burglary and lost passport I'd probably be down for a few days.
