Wow! Now, after watching your video, I finally feel confident that I'll be able to succeed this time in mapping my MIDI controller. All the videos that I watched on KZbin never mentioned the bypass button. It is precisely there that I was messing with all the controls and mappings. Now I got it. Thanks for sharing this video.

I'm now using a MIDI Remote script that has been created by a genius (Minas C.) for the NI Komplete keyboard, it is incredibly powerful. I can do my mix (faders, pan, mute, solo...), including groups, edit VST and Track Quick Controls, send effects, edit channel strips (including Pre and EQ) and plugins and I have 3 pages of additional shortcuts. That's a dream. It is incredible what this guy has been able to create with the Cubase APIs. But he had to program some functions in JavaScript in addition to just using the Remote MIDI GUI editor.

Since the introduction of MIDI Remote in Cubase, my workflow has significantly sped up. All the buttons and encoders on my X-Touch Mini have now been used up, one bank for pre-production and the other for mixing and post-production. Another great video, AB.

I've had Cubase since version 10, and had 12 since it came out but only this week found out about MIDI remote. Finally was able to set up my Maschine Studio to work as my control panel (which was what I bought it for), glorious. Also it's very helpful if you have a Native Instruments controller to use this in combination with the NI Controller Editor.

Thanks, very clear (as far as it goes, i.e. no explanation of multiple pages). I recently had an issue and I had to go on a forum to look for answers, and it was to do with being unable to rename the Default page in the mapping editor. I was planning on creating multiple pages for different VST plugins. However, I was taken down this route that involved opening something that came in Cubase 9 that I had never seen before, called the Remote Control Editor (available by right-clicking at the top of a VST GUI). The idea being that by using this in conjunction with Version 12s MIDI Remote, simply changing tracks would automatically change the knob assignments to the tracks VST. I could NOT get it to work, so I was just wondering if you had any experience of this or know an easy way to change VST knob assignments by simply changing track. Thanks.

hi john I'm not familiar with what you are referring to, although I may have stumbled on it somewhere,, but as of cubase 12 and the new way that MIDI remote is handled, I know they are eventually phasing out any older options, so I have turned all my focus to using what they have. Incidentally, I had to use multiple scripts to do everything I wanted with my controller, certain things would work with one input in one script, and the other things would work with a different input in a different script, andrew

@@TheDigitalAudioManual Hi Andrew, I appreciate your prompt response... my feeling is that on the forum I encountered people who had been using the older RCE (see above) and had then bolted on the newer MIDI remote but, as you say, this will be getting phased out and I didn't care for the look of it anyway! When you talk about multiple scripts are you referring to using multiple pages within the mapping assistant or are you writing your own in Javascript? I certainly wouldn't want to go down the latter route, I just want to be able to use multiple pages and switch between them on my controller, which has been working, but I then wanted to rename the 'default' first page but couldn't. Finally, the guys using the older RCE said that they could simply change track and the knob assignments would automatically change to suit the VST instrument on that track, This is a great idea but I haven't yet got it working successfully and I wonder if that functionality is reliant on the old RCE or can be done purely in MIDI remote? Quite involved, I know, but I would appreciate any further clarity on this. Thanks!

hi john,, when I refer to scripts I'm referring to what cubase creates every time you make a controller interface in the remote tab, (lower zone) like I demonstrated in this video... If you go to the upper menu bar of cubase to Studio-MIDI Remote Manager,, in that dialog there are 2 tabs there, in the 1st tab (Controllers) I have 2 controllers created, each of those controllers could have multiple pages of commands as you are referring to,, 2nd if I go to the Scipts tab, in that same dialog box,, you can see all the pre defined scripts of cubase for various other controller manufacturers along with 2 scripts I created, one for each of my control surfaces. Those scripts are auto created when I made my 2 control surfaces in the Remote Lower Zone. As far as switching tracks and have different controllers change,, I have not encountered that myself ...I do know there are some Key Commands to switch various remote options all the best,,, andrew

Thanks for the great video! Really helpful. So I have created my MIDI control surface and everything works perfectly. Thank you!!! But how do I save it? I have exported the script but when trying to import that script I either get an error or the script loads but nothing changes visually or in the remote itself. The DAW (Cubase Pro 13.0.41) does not remember it.either. I can open the saved Cubase project the next day and I have to start over and create a new surface every time. I have checked the Cubased manual and online but the only thing I can find is about exporting the script. However, importing the script does not work for me. Thanks for any help!

hi mike, its a big question,, I wish I could give you a couple of sentences to answer,,, but one thing to look at,, go to studio-MIDI remote manager and see what script seems to be in play at the moment to see if you can determine some conflict.

Hey Andy don't suppose you have a recomended list for mapping the Nektar Impact 88+ as I have exactly the same midi keyboard i also run a UR44 as my interface.

hi Mykl,,, if you are referring to the mapping list,, I mostly use the 8 knobs on the right,,, top rt is pre gain,, bottom rt is channel fader, next in on the bottom is pan, next bottom is AI mouse, and bottom left is Low pass filter,, top left is Hi pass filter, the other two on the top are blank currently. The buttons under the sliders on the far left I have "turn on the lo/hi filters, next button over is lo pass on/off,, next is hi pass on/off,,, the others are unused currently,, the sliders are used for focus quick controls,, and the touch pads for groove agent pads,,, all the best,,, andrew

A big ask I know, can you do one for the Korg Nano Kontrol 2, with faders and knobs? I seem to have trouble re assigning cc controls etc. I want to delete the Cubase 13 Pro one and start from scratch maybe? Can I even reset the Cubase one and start over? Would be awesome if you could. 🤩

This is a little off topic, but I'm running Cubase 12 elements. Just bought a Roland JunoDS, and for the life of me, can't remember how to assign sounds from the keyboard into my Cubase. I know it's supposed to be in performance mode, and I know that TX and Rx have something to do with it. I used to run Cubase. With a role in JV 30 years ago, and can't remember the procedure for drawing sounds from my synth, into each of the individual midi tracks created, how to enable it all and get it up and running. Like I said, off topic, but if you have a link perhaps that can outline this procedure, I would be forever grateful. Thank you in advance if you can help

Hi. I have a Nektar P6 and cubase 12 pro. I am following your instructions, but I can't activate the drum pads in the cubase midi controller. I've tried the 'button' and I've trief the 'trigger pad'. Nothing works. The same goes for the pitchbend and modulation. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks!

hi Dirk,,, I had the same problem originally,,, it is the trigger pad option you want to use,, why its not responding currently is the mystery,, when I get some time I will retrace my steps on how I made those work,,, I think I set up a new mapping just for the pads because I was testing if some other thing might be interfering,, for sure works from a note on/off type of information,,, andrew

Hi Dirk,, here is my 2nd reply,, so I messed with it and for me the only solution was to go through the exact same steps and create a 2nd controller,, the main difference with this controller is I used the Impact LX88 option in the MIDI port assignment,, which is a different input port registered in the legacy list.. anyway long story short in my Mapping Assistant there are now 2 controllers,, one for my faders, knobs and buttons,, and one for note on messages and Trigger Pads. Fortunately in the Mapping Assistant, its a quick choice in a dropdown to switch between the controllers,, but why it requires the 2 separate MIDI ports for the different functions I have yet to determine.... andrew

hi eduard,, sorry to hear that,,, I had a few functions on my controller as well that didnt work until I built multiple surfaces using all the different midi inputs available and then one worked,, I hope you can find a solution if there is one,,, andrew

Problem with midi remote is it does not ghandle midi PC :( , may be some day.
