Unfortunately, this did not resolve my problem. My use-case was mentioned at 4:45, but I'm not seeing any options involving Control Room. The issue seems to lie primarily in the fact that Cubase does not want to share audio outputs with my operating system. I appreciate the in-depth troubleshooting video either way though in case I come across these other issues.

What audio interface and/or driver are you using? Some drivers do not play well with windows, or with other applications trying to share them (I have this a lot with clients when they try to use Zoom on a PC running Cubase, although I'm lucky as my Presonus shares them happily).

@@musictechtuition I was just using my default Windows output. I ended up asking about it on the Steinberg help forum. Turned out it was because my ASIO drivers were out of date (didn't think that would be an issue especially considering the newest driver was from 2019). Initially the issue was that it wouldn't let me switch the Realtek HD audio to be used in Cubase when it was originally being used by Windows. After the update, it allowed the "Release driver when not in focus" setting to function properly. HTML5 players still don't play nicely running in tandem with Cubase, but it's far better, and more than adequate for my use now.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I had spent a long time trying to work out why I could see the audio, but couldn't hear it. It was the Routing setup. Cubase had input and output selected under routing and as soon as i disabled the input, I could hear my audio track. You're a legend!

Great stuff Darren, cheers! On this very day today in Pro 11, I lost my drum group! After 5 minutes of staring at my iiyama monitor, checking, looking under my bedroom carpet …… the channel fader was pulled down right to the bottom and off! 😣😂. It’s the simplest of things you forgot you did a minute before, sometimes!

Thank been pulling out very little hair that i had . Control Room was 1 issue and issue with outputs so 2 issues solved and sound is back . Happy New Year

Thank you for this very comprehensive tutorial. However I’m still stucked with no audio output. I couldn’t find my use case in your video. I’m using a PC with windows11 and trying to listen to a midi file (drums and bass) that I imported. I’m using the Steinberg built-in ASIO driver and the ports are all active. If I go to to MIDI port configuration the dialog box shows no driver, so it may be the issue ?

Thank you! After removing/adding my input/output bus (to try to resolve another issue) I could not figure out why my VSTs weren't playing audio. The specific "edit channel setting" button with the "No Target" was the culprit! Harder to find since I wasn't working with audio tracks (which would show the output on the inspector) Appreciate the help! 🤩

hi ! great vid...I was hoping maybe you can help me with my issue cause it isnt mentioned in your video....I play the drums and want load up a backing track so i can play along and record them together.....I load it up fine and i can hear the song perfectly and play along with it...But the moment i hit the record button i stop hearing the song and i can onlyh hear my drums...It doesnt come through the recording either....Been stuck like this for almost a month...All the audio connections,buses,drivers etc...They are all ok..Any ideas?thnx in advance

As always a great, useful video. Over the many years of using Cubase I have encountered most of these issues and consequently have a very good fault finding system. I always use Control room and have done for about 7 years (I think 🤔) but I did have one of the issues mentioned in this video. However a couple of weeks ago I purchased an SE PRS and wasn't happy with the pickups. So, I though I would shove some Fishmans in it. I have never had a guitar with active pickups in the many, many years of playing, they have always been passives (humbuckers, P90s, etc). So, I changed the pickups with the circuitry purporting to have 200 hrs of battery life. So, I spent a few days recording (unplugging after every session). Left it for a week, started to record again and on the new track for some over dubs noticed there was no sound on my new guitar track... exactly as you have shown here. I thought I must have configured the new track wrong. Went through my fault find process and ... still no sound, nothing, no signal 😖. About 10-20 mins went by where I checked again, still nothing... 🤷‍♂ Then it hit me... must be FLAT BATTERY! Changed it and 💥 Boom back in the room! So, this method helped me in around about way.. the routing was correct, the group channels were correct, the control room connections were correct the fader was up... In the words of Sherlock Homes: "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." Flat battery! 🤣🤣🤣🤣😉😎👍

Yeah... I've lost count of the number of times that I've had something which was assumed to be OK be the problem. My wife thinks I'm a bit OTT because I say you can never assume anything works when you have a problem like that... but it's often true!

what if the bluetooth headphones arent in the output section? I am listening to music on the same laptop with them and its connected fine but they arent appearing in the cubase output at all and cubase is only playing through the speakers

I'd guess that is something you'd need to fix in the Bluetooth headphone mixer/software. It's difficult to say as there are so many different options, but I'd check there, or if you're using the generic ASIO driver, then in the control panel for that you may be able to pick the headphones as the output.

Please do a video on Cubase 12 Pro ‘Expression Maps’ I have lots of setup instrument tracks named and set up as I like, I’ve added expression maps in setup saved them set as template so I get the same setup. All expression maps are not saved. Took me all Saturday to setup a template and has not remembered expression map.

Do you get audio from the same hardwhere using another program (such as VLC)? Sometimes it's not working for reasons that are outside of Cubase...

Re: instrument on solo only, what works for me fairly often is, when all tracks are active, I just hit mute, then unmute the track in question, and it starts working. Just my 2 cents before duplicating the whole track

@@musictechtuition Yeah, some of those weird bugs you can never recreate on purpose. Sometimes what I'll have is I can play an instrument on my keyboard only when the track is stopped, but as soon as I hit play, I can neither play it on the keyboard, nor does it play its midi parts

@@izsvemira Yeah, I think that's related to the issue I've seen a few times - I used to think I was making it up until I started seeing students having issues in classroom sessions, which was always a real knock to their confidence as they assumed it was them making mistakes...
