My Uncle Ken used to buy super cubs etc in the lower 48 back then he could scoop them up for a song. He's fix them up then fly them up to Alaska fly around there a bit then sell them. He had them sold before he even got there. Often he'd pick up his cousin Frank Herbert the author and they'd fly up together. He also bought Cessnas like 180s 185s and 206s mount them on floats fly out to his cabin on Lake Creek. He told me that cousin Frank was annoying as hell explaining how aircraft worked. Ken was a 20 year active duty fighter pilot and then a bush pilot for 20 years or so.

I've seen super cubs on floats take off into a steady 30 kt headwind actually go backwards after liftoff then turn and WHOOOOOSH ~~~> gone
