Hermitcraft 9: SCULK SAGA ENDS (Episode 48)

Today on Hermitcraft from the Empires SMP we continue to see Sculk spreading throughout the world. We meet up ‪@Pixlriffs‬, ‪@FalseSymmetry‬, and ‪@shelbygraces‬ who try various methods to cure us of the Sculk Maddness. We then meet with ‪@xisumavoid‬ try to piece together what has happened and build Hermitopia while removing some Sculk.

Just wanna mention, when Cub went to bed and had a "dream" about spreading the sculk, the whispering voice was saying "spread the souls" backwards. Something tells me, despite what everyone else thinks, the sculk and souls aren't necessarily synonymous. They're mutually exclusive. So sure, while Cub's sculk arc has ended, but something's telling me that his SOUL ARC has only just begun. PS: wrote this before the video ended, but I still think this isn't the last we see of sculk cub

I would have been more comfortable with that conclusion if we had actually seen him remove a single catalyst that he had hidden.. Like, I'm not sold on his commitment to the clear-up, and there's a decent chance that's intentional on his part, as foreshadowing. Not guaranteed tho 🙃

I don't think the empires people were prepared for a villain on a Cub scale. When Cub sets his mind to something, his focus and scale are massive. I feel that if had one of the empires players got infected, it would have taken them several weeks to even get to the point where they were affecting multiple bases.

I don't think Cub calculated the amount of damage it would cause to builds, particularly for builders like Pix who use a lot of natural blocks. Having to replace destroyed blocks in your build in a big job, and Cub laid hundreds of sculk catalysts. See JoeHills video for details.

I love how right after Cub got his Warden farm working on HC for the best form of portable XP, Mojang nerfed the catalyst to try and discourage folks farming the Warden. Leave it to Cub to come up with another fantastic use for a Warden farm.

This episode was weirdly cute, I loved seeing the Emperors try and help save you from yourself lol and your acting was pretty good as well. I know you got some criticism about this arc so it’s nice to see that there’s no hard feelings involved between the players and that most of the damage was fixed without too much effort :D it was fun while it lasted, though! also that villager trading hall is so cozy!

@@Ju-bz7yt Calm yourselves. It was a comment concerning someone saying he fixed most of the damage, when clearly that wasn't the case. I do believe he had everyone's approval to do what he done to advance someones lore. Besides they control the server with just a few commands they can turn all skulk above a certain level back to dirt. It just struck me as strange that the original post totally overlooked how little cleanup was done just to suck up to Cubfan. And let's face it, Cubs acting is hilariously bad. That's what makes it so great.

I am finding it quite hilarious how people are answering for the creators on this SMP. Empires has a gentleman’s rule as per what Pixlriffs said in one of his streams... They, not just Pixl, say as long as you aren’t blowing things up (unless approved) anything goes... It also makes great content...

Yet pixl said in his stream that they were not informed about this prank at all beforehand and also he said that in his mind this was a mistake. He is cleaning the server right now on cub's behalf because for some reason cub isn't doing it himself (at least not yet) simply because the longer that stuff is left there the worse it gets. Pranks are nice but this is griefing. And if you do something like that, at least clean up after yourself. Cub lost lots of point in my eyes because of this.

@@aefinn it’s a cool storyline and I think if he had chosen any other method of “infection” it would have been fine. The problem is the skulk spreads by itself and therefore is near impossible to control and will probably never be completely cleaned up. If he had placed all the skulk himself, then I would say that any and all of the block conversion would have been okay. But using skulk catalysts was probably a mistake, especially if he didn’t keep track of where exactly he placed all of them

this was weirdly wholesome lol :D i’m sad to see sculkfan135 go, though, that was one of the coolest pranks i’ve ever seen and inspired so many awesome fan works! i hope we see a resurgence of the deep dark back on hermitcraft, maybe like a game with joe since he seemed to really enjoy it! well done cub, the acting here was really fun to watch and i enjoyed all the new connections this brought :)

Your additions to the Hermit Tower are absolutely beautiful, you’ve more than made up for the damage. This prank was fun, the skin was fantastic, but I’m glad everything got resolved in such a sweet way. This was a very feel-good episode, thanks for proving to everyone that although the Hermits prank hard, they always clean up harder. Looking forward to seeing what you’ve got planned for the rest of the crossover.

Watching the first half was like watching a movie, so much great acting and story telling. Love the sort of accidental framing of when they were peaking into him hole, each taking a turn to appear and look at him, saying ‘we’re here to help’. It was really wholesome. Will forever miss skulkfan, but maybe now we can get the promised colourful cub fan? (From the first episode of the crossover)

It would be even cuter if I didn't have the knowledge that e!False was a murderer lol. Though Cub may be cured, I hope Shubble is extra careful about that fog now! When I was a child, I loved playing backyard ball with "The Big Kids." They were bigger, faster, and stronger, but were still kids and were often reckless. Me being a "Little Kid," and a small one at that, I was more prone to injury than the others. Inevitably, I'd end up on the ground, doubled over in pain because one of the Big Kids accidentally forgot their own strength. To keep from getting tattled on, the Big Kid would often say "You can hit me back, as hard as you can!" They felt guilty, but didn't want to get in trouble, so they tried their best to make it up to me in the most Kid-Way possible. Little Kid me would usually end up laughing at their over-reaction to my "strength." I feel like Cubfan is the Big Kid on the Server who accidentally forgot his strength.

Now that I think about it, the sculk-spread thing reminds me of a major plot point from NerdCubed (the minecraft webcomic before he became a letsplayer). The Root (obsidian and nether portals) was trying to infect and corrupt the world... and that's pretty much exactly what sculk does, both mechanically and lore-wise.

I'd never really thought of the mechanic the skulk catalyst introduced until you did this story arc. There are a lot of story telling possibilities with that block. A lore heavy server is a really good place to do it. I hope the Emperors make some use of it, even if it wasn't something they were expecting.
