I’m looking into installing one of these cubic minis in my van and have been doing a lot of research. This video has been the most helpful one yet!!! Thanks for giving such a thorough review. I look forward to future videos!

Skyler whiting I font know how I miss you comment weeks ago! Thank you for the compliment! Did you get a Cubic yet? It really makes cold weather camping super enjoyable and fun to cook on! Cheers and safe travels!

I love the extra plate you installed on top. How can I get one, or how should I ask someone to make it for me? Phrasing I mean. Thanks.

I have sold my Cnc Plasma that I used to make it. It’s just 1/8 inch steel that I cut out. I too have loved the way works and the way it turned out. You could probably go buy a piece of steel and take it to a fabrication shop with dimensions and they could cut one out for you. I have worked on selling off my shop to travel full-time in my expedition truck! It has a cubic mini in it, but it’s the grizzly! A little bit more room to cook on the top of that one! Sorry I couldn’t be of more help I should’ve cut out several of thosebecause you’re not the first to ask! Have a happy new year and cheers!

Nice! I'm going to install one in my truck camper. Need dry heat to eliminate condensation issues in the cab-over bed area. I'm soo done with propane heat. BTW, love your camper -- very cabin in the woods-ish.

We just put a Cubic Mini Grizzly on our boat and LOVE it. It’s just such a quiet peaceful way to heat...and fills me with joy ;) We give it a 10 out of 10! -Rebecca

Thank you! I love the heat that comes off of it! So soothing For sore muscles and even arthritis. I didn’t have enough room to cook on top like I wanted so I made the plate and welded it to it. It works out really well!

Tim, thank you for the informative review. My girlfriend and I are planning on buying the Cubic Mini Cub stove for our 16ft Scamp. We loved your idea for the larger surface area for the stove top. Can you give us more details on what material you used, dimensions, how we can go about doing it/how we can replicate your brilliant idea please? Our goal is to do a lot of cooking on the stove top. Thank you!

I have the larger model - The Grizzly, installed in a small remote cabin of ours here in Canada, we've been very happy with it. Great Canadian made product! Which may be impacting your delivery times, as it's shipping cross border to get to the US, and the Pandemic is likely impacting delivery these days. And yes, always install with double wall flew pipe.

Love the idea but let us know about transportation issues. Others have talked about roof cap while driving, hot ashes when moving, etc. Still love the idea myself just can’t decide where in my toy hauler I’d install it……great video

For the most part I burn Duraflame golds cut into quarter or thirds. By the time it’s morning there’s not any hot coals left to blow out. I haven’t had any issues at all with that! Highly recommend it and I’ve bought one for my expedition truck as well as my next adventure truck build! For me it took the crabbiness out of camping in the cold! Hope this helps!

Good day, Sir! So, to add to a insulated/single wall flue comments below- I feel that the top should be insulated, for obvious reasons, but the lower section not so much. Why? Well you just use that extra heat it kicks out. I would definitely connect the copper piping around it and install a heat pump. Yet again, just because I get more heat out of the flue. Hot water and showers whenever it's burning. I have a question about the second combustion vents. Have you noticed any difference in the wood consumption? Do you just burn the things with primary and secondary vents on full open and then choke it down or do you have a preferred method? Secondly, do you keep waking up at night to feed it? Because it really seems to me that for colder weather it would be impaired by the small chamber, as I presume one would really have to feed it overnight. I guess one could bypass that by making a tight fitting metal box with holes and cross bars, full of holes, and filling it with sawdust or pellets. That would definitely maximize the burning hours! Cheers! :)

Great review man. I’m so done with Little Buddies. The moisture it leaves and it’s only good for 3-4 hours. 10 hours with the Cub is incredible!
@TRCa514 жыл бұрын
Ron I love the cubic mini! I just bought another one for my Expedition Build! It takes so little wood to keep you warm that you can find scraps left in fire pits to run for Months! Love it! Moisture was a tad bit of a problem with the buddy heaters! Really nice when you want to get warm fast though! One the cubic is burning it takes about 45 minutes to really start warming up inside! Thank you for the comment! Cheers!

I think he gets longer burn times by choking it way down, which would explain so much buildup on the glass in such a short time. He's probably building up a lot of creosote in his flue that way, or that's my guess. It'd still be worth some extra maintenance if it keeps chugging most or all night, but I generally prefer a small, hot fire over a smoldering fire. I'd try to find the least amount of air I could allow and still get the secondary burn. I guess they have two dampers, one for the secondary burn. I THINK I'd want that open most of the way and restrict the primary air as much as possible to keep it hot enough to burn its own smoke in the secondary.

Only on the coldest nights do I use the Dura flame gold cut into thirds. Most of the time I walk out and around and collect wood that was left behind from previous campers. Some of those hardwoods will get a good bird most of the night! Absolutely love having a woodburning stove now in all three of my Riggs!

Hi Tim, I'm just about to order the Grizzly cubic mini stove and heard you say you wanted the insulated pipe to also be inside your truck. From the website, it sounds like they recommend the uninsulated 3" pipe on the inside, and then the 5" insulated pipe above the roof (with the 3" inside of it) up to the cap. Is there a reason you wanted the interior pipe to be insulated, maybe for less space / clearance around the pipe? Thank you for your video.
@TRCa514 жыл бұрын
Gaianna3 From what I understand they do a double insulated 3 inch pipe that goes into the 5 inch that passes through the roof! I believe cubic says this gives the stove the best burn characteristics. Super happy with the set up that I ordered though!

Did you throw a cooking platform on your mini for more cooking surface area? How's it working?

Yes I CNC plasmaed a platform that will hold my cast iron skillet. Cutting another one for my Grizzly that’s going into my expedition truck build. I really love the Cubic Mini!

Great video, thanks! Q: With it not being on the floor, do your feet stay cold? We have a 28' 5th wheel so the heat will rise to the bedroom. Just wondering if you had a little more floor space would you have placed it on the floor or does the heat circulate so well that having it mid-height is nearly equally effective?
@TRCa514 жыл бұрын
Danielle Apple the heat does rise but the fan does a great job of moving the air though the truck.!the floor is around 5 or so cooler. Cubic Mini was a afterthoughts and not part of the original design! Thank you for the comment! Cheers!

@@TRCa51 thanks for your reply. Would you be willing to look at a pic of our interior and give insight on where you would place it? (Don't have solar panels). Great product. I'm headed back to Grand Canyon for a backpack journey. Truck camping at Tusayan area ( 7000ft) I expect around 15F at night......much warmer inside canyon I expect. Stove would be nice if I had a truckcamper setup. Did you say another adventure truck build is coming? What chassis if I dare ask?
@TRCa515 жыл бұрын
Yes I have been working on a New concept! New chassis will be a Ford F 550 4 door 4x4 205" Wheelbase. 41" Tires and Super singles. Super close to an Earth Roamer but my design. Still about the same floor plan but will have an enclosed wet bath and will be wide enough to store my Motorcycle East/west instead on down the aisle! I ale=ways have something in the works! Don't get me wrong I love my truck but my wife requires a little more room! LOL! Well and a separate rest room!

@@TRCa51 Wow! and i was going to suggest a mere F350 SRW. Those Earth Roamer type vehicles sell for crazy high $$. I see them out there, but never on anything worse than smooth dirt. You will be the exception no doubt. I'll be watching for this build!

Hey there, was thinking about installing one of these in a similar sized cabin, but all the specs say 30" clearance above the stove, I was wondering what your clearance is to the ceiling and if you really think 30" is necessary. Thanks!
@TRCa514 жыл бұрын
They probably say that do legal liability reasons. I think mine is right around 30”. This last trip we had high winds and I had wind blowing down the pipe and putting out the log. I’m going to cut down the exit pipe on the roof and make my angle parallel with the top of the roof. As for you if your clearance is much less than 30” you could even do a heat shield! Hope this helps!

Really, if your water can reach to put out a fire in your camper, that would be much preferred to a dry powder BIG mess ! If water can’t put it out, don’t hesitate with the fire extinguisher(s), tho.

How thick was the extra plate that you added on top? looks to be about 3 or 4 mm? did you weld it in place? hows it holding up? any signs of warping?
@TRCa514 жыл бұрын
Fintan Stack it’s hold up 100% great. .125 thick of cold steel. Really allows you to use a large skillet and gets some cooking done! No warping and it’s stick welded to the cubic mini. Will do again on my next build!
