My mini cubic grizzly wood stove; first impressions. Please note, I am in no way a builder. I am just a normal guy trying to manage my way building a small 200 foot off grid shed (cabin) just outside the west gate of Yellowstone National Park and have some fun along the way..
Since I am a novice and not afraid to make mistakes I highlight them so others dont do what I do in some cases and maybe take my lead on the things I do Okay..Most competent builders and contractors and even serious hobbyist may not get too much form this, but the average person may..
So here is my humble attempt to add heat to a place that can get very cold in the most efficient way.
The full review of all the pros and cons (in my view) will be posted next..Stay tuned if interested.

I sure hope I order all of the right flu pipes when I order my Grizzly! I'm glad you made this video so I can hopefully measure right!

Pretty sure you should have used a hatchet to cut that hole, wow what a mess that was, haha. These stoves looks so dang cool though

Nice! My question: What did you put around the part where the flue is connected to the top of the woodstove, because smoke comes out of that spot. I tried a couple kinds of high temp caulking without any luck so far. Any good suggestions? Thank you, all the best.
@bearlylivable
@bearlylivable Жыл бұрын
I would definitely contact the cubic mini stove people. That should not happen at all. You may need to eventually pull that pipe to help clean the flue anyway and sealing it with calk would be a pain to take off, clean and reapply. They are good people from my dealings with them so far. I would think they would replace the part that is leaking. You also don’t need any excess C02 which could get dangerous. The bottom section of the flue should snug on perfectly.

…..but in the meantime while we are in winter you may need a temporary fix until they help you right now..if so, there is this silver tape you can buy at HD or Lowe’s that will seal it. I’d check the heat rating first. If that don’t work you may have to seal it with a high heat caulking like you initially suggested.

@@bearlylivable Thanks for the reply. Yeah whats weird is that my flue doesnt sit flush with the stove top. I dont know why. Ill just use furnace cement and see if that works.

NIce review. I would also agree about the FUMES the first few burns. It's unbearable really. Similar smoke and fumes like burning a pile of plastic in your fire. Definitely would recommend an initial outdoor seasoning, maybe 4 hours of HOT fire at least.

The insulated pipe starts from 2" below *the ceiling, not the roof,* to the 1 foot mark passed the highest point of the roof. cubicminiwoodstoves.com/collections/grizzly-cb-1210/products/24-long-5-stainless-steel-insulated-pipe-cb-5024-ss

How is the heat on the ceiling directly above the stove? We have found that our ceiling gets alarming hot.
@bearlylivable
@bearlylivable Жыл бұрын
I’ve been watching it. I only went through 3/4 ply and the metal roof so the 3 “ pipe stops just below where the insulated pipe starts. Works pretty well but I’m going to finish it off or trim it out with cement board just to be safe.

@@bearlylivable I was asking about the heat given off of the stove itself. My chimney pipe is not making my ceiling hot, it's the stove itself that is making my ceiling hot. Trim out cement board? How so? What's you plan?
@bearlylivable
@bearlylivable Жыл бұрын
@@throughoureyes5160 My ceiling is about 8 feet above the stove and therefore no issues whatsoever with heat. As for the cement board question,you just scored with a utility knife and snap it apart and clean it up from there. But will protect any wood that might be absorbing heat. Other than that I have no different plan

@@bearlylivable Ahhh I see now. Trim meant "cut to size". Thanks man! I see that in the video now. Plenty of clearance. Have you used the stove yet and slept next to it? Was it to hot?

@@throughoureyes5160 not so far this fall. We are still in the low 70s at day and 30s at night. Still have the window cracked. But I’ve used in it below 0 degrees F temps and with that fan blowing the air right at the bed we sleep like logs. Excuse the pun:)

can I put this in a regular house if I pipe it out the window or pipe it out the side wall?
@bearlylivable
@bearlylivable 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure I would go out a window but definitely out of a wall or through a roofs with the proper exit kit.. Also make sure that it's not trying to heat too much space .. pretty sure it's meant for a small area.. My little cabin is only 200 ft² and it barely manages that.. But I still love it

@bearlylivable
@bearlylivable 4 жыл бұрын
a lot depends on how cold, the insulation and how high the ceilings are but I think you are right about the size it should do well with..You and I have the same size basically to heat up and it performs well for me with the fan..But when it drops below zero and its bed time, it will force you to feed ever 90 minutes or so, so some type of back up may be good to have..$230 is a great price where did you find it for that cheap?
