CORRECTION: I mistook TNL Cubing's logo for being Souptimmy's - and TNL has actually stopped uploading. So, 2 or maybe 3/7 correct for UK Cuber.

Uhm, how can you have confusion where soup timmy’s has soup bowl and cube as its logo while TNL’s is just a cube and purple blackground, also im not mad just saying

Great video. Cannot disagree with much you said here and it was all put together really well. Thank you for listening to my points and reading my counter-comments before making this video because so many of the original comments on my video didn’t listen to what I was actually saying. Your point about perspective was something I had not at all considered but was very correct. As someone who has only really practiced 3x3, I came at this topic from a very specific angle and didn’t consider any other events (which is completely my bad). As a small counter to the Reddit screenshots I used, I didn’t intend on them being such a significant part of the video. They were just an afterthought to give a little bit of backing to my points. And it’s nice to know that Reddit doesn’t have my back when serving me posts from 8 years ago smh! Once again, good video, can’t disagree. (0:40 had me dying!)

cubing will live. it's survived since the late 70s, and hasn't even thought about slowing down. loads of people discover cubing everyday, a youtuber quitting after uploading for a decade isn't going to make a dent in the community.

I recently watched Wall-E, which I think is placed some 2,000 yrs in the future, and there’s still cube in the movie. Just a fun fact

Cubing survived the covid lockdowns and there is a huge influx of new cubers at WCA events in the last 2 years. Over 37000 new competitors last year, up from 26000 the year before. I suspect that the new generation of cubers are hanging out in forums that I'm not part of as a semi-retired cuber.

banger video, love it when people say "cubing is dead" because theyre not having as much fun as they did, proceeding to ignore 99% of puzzles, ignoring hardware advancements, ignoring cube knowledge and theory, ignoring alternative methods, practice only 3x3 on one cube doing the same cfop solve every single time for the past thousand hours
@timeisahorse11410 ай бұрын
AMAZING video! Btw 13:53 reminded me of the fact that I'm like six seconds too slow to compete in 4x4 because of the cutoff, despite having cubed for 7 years and counting. The only thing that I think is currently wrong with the WCA's regulations is those cutoffs. 3x3's limit is ten minutes but 4x4's is 1:15?? It doesn't make any sense. I get that they can't just have some kid taking an hour on 4x4, but at least make it the same as 3x3. And it gets worse as the cubes get bigger; even Z3 can't beat the 7x7 cutoff yet. For years, I didn't want to even try to get fast enough in 4x4 to compete, since that cutoff seemed so far away. It's unfriendly to beginners. Big cube cutoffs should be raised to allow more competitors in those events. I think that a cutoff of 2 minutes on 4x4 would be reasonable, and maybe 4:30 on 5x5, but idk I haven't done a lot of speed 5x5 or above. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
@SwagridCubing10 ай бұрын
The cutoff is usually more generous for more popular events so that more people can compete. Otherwise 3x3 cutoff would probably be 45 or 60. The issue is that the bigger cubes like 5,6,7 and megaminx are often the culprits for comps running late, so they're actually where you need to be the strictest when running a comp. It's all logistics.
@timeisahorse11410 ай бұрын
@@SwagridCubing I see. It's still odd that 3x3 has a longer cutoff than big cubes, but I get why they have to keep things moving

Holy shit, what a great video! I think that even without the WCA (not saying that WCA is a bad thing, it’s obviously amazing that we have volunteers who help to boost the community) cubing would still survive, although I feel like some changes just have to be made, like for example making two types of comps (casual and competitive) where competitive events like Worlds have a ao12 format instead of ao5 (maybe just for finals cuz worlds is a huge comp) and where big cube events use ao5 instead of mo3, and for the love of god, 3BLD has to be mo3 instead of bo3 (and maybe even ao5 for like world finals), I feel like that would give people more of a choice on how they want to compete instead of being forced to compete in regular formats, and that idea can be expanded beyond just that (like for example elimination on cube desk) although I’m still not sure about how I feel about events like Relays being added to the WCA cuz I just feel like these are more for fun then for a more competitive environment, but I definitely think that adding events little by little (like Redi cube) will only help grow the community.

This was amazing! great job! i thorughly agree with everything you said, especially the perspective. I haddn't cubed in a while and, as you said, i took a different perspective when I started to learn 7 simul for clock and now im practicing all sorts of events and its been amazing. And smaller youcubers (cubing with alex, JFcubing, k4cubing and more) have been making really good content and they could soon replace the bigger creators that have been around for longer and fill the gaps of content. Cubing will survive, we will survive!

I never really liked ukcuber as a youcuber, and this video was no exception, but I don't blame him for thinking this, when you quit something it can seem like everyone is quitting this, I thought the exact sae thing when I quit playing rocket league, because of the fact that I quit I stopped engaging in the online community, and as I saw less because I engaged less I thought that the game was dying, but when I actually checked the player base like 2 or 3 months later it was actually bigger than when I used to play
@SamSpeedCubes10 ай бұрын
also to add to the evidence that its not dying, I'm an organizer for competitions, and in pre pandemic and 2022 we had like 2-4 comps per year in our organization's area, and they weren't even guaranteed to fill, but last year we held I believe 12 competitions and this year we've already had one and have one planned in feb, 3 planned in march, one in april, ad one in may, and that's just what's planned, we have many more in the works, and they're all filling up within as little as 30 mins, and sometimes up to a couple weeks depending on the events and location, also each one of these comps are bigger than the ones before, cubing is far from dead, his research was really lazy in that video
