It will be a few months before my injuries and the foul weather improves enough for me to get back onto the tennis courts. In the meantime I've been using my DIY tennis ball machine to test some new projectiles I've designed. UPDATE: new projectile launcher is finally ready

Great video. I'm currently building a pitching machine and I'm using a ball drop mechanism that is similar to yours, using and Arduino and a servo motor. I'll post when I'm done. Hopefully not much longer. Your videos are clear and easy to understand. Hang in there, one of your ideas is bound to catch. Good luck!

Awesome machine! Totally agree with your design process - I've always said; when you look at any object, don't do it from a perspective of its' purpose - do it from a perspective of its' properties. Example, don't look at a screw like: "its meant for screwing into something" look at it like; "It's pointy, it's rigid, its magnetic, it has a sharp spiral around it, it's x mm long" etc. etc.... Adopting this thought process will open up doors for you to innovate with basically all the garbage you can find, and you can turn anything into everything.

Remember, every successful person you see has probably failed many times before. Don't be disheartened by past failure. I'm sure back in 2015 it was a huge blow but it's just a stepping stone. You may be in a better place now, but even if things are still not doing great, it's certainly not too late to keep trying. You won't regret resilience and determination when you finally catch a break.

Very good video I've always wanted to build something even if it's crap but I'm always to scared. You have provided me with a lot of courage of how real people build real things. I really hope you could get your hands in the machinery you wanted I know you gave it good use.

Excellent creativity and initiative. Respect This is one of the most fascinating and inspiring youtube or any content you can find in the depths of the web. A "little gem" shining , forward , towards new challenges, innovations and conquers regardless of the past defeats!

Success still eludes me. I converted the tennis ball launcher into something more hand-held and the project eventually morphed into this failed Kickstarter video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5vMnWise8x0f9E I've moved on and the key to dealing with failure is the knowledge that the secret to success with all the successful people I've met has been simply hard work AND just plain old luck. So as long as you keep trying, eventually your luck will come good. Which reminds me, I've got more inventions to build...

Yup. And sometimes the overt success itself as sweet as it might taste ain't nothing compared to the road traveled. It is the journey, not the destination which carries the meaning of the other and gives the deepest satisfaction. I know failure and have come to learn to embrace it as some kind of a blessing in disguise. And the conventional success will come also through this kind of relaxed mindset, with the focus on the present task at hand and enjoyment you will find in giving yourself to that task, giving it your best effort, your best self with no excuses. Great you keep on doing your thing not giving up on your own road and calling. Keep building your vision and enjoy every successful moment in the process. And the economical success - you will get there also. Most likely. Meanwhile enjoy the ride and all the discoveries and inventions you come up with on the way. And now I will take a look at that Kickstarter thing. :D

Wow. That spider man grapple hook sling gadget and the platform concept was another mind-blower! You have a truly creative mind, incredible visionary drive and that astonishing prowess to turn your bold and original ideas also into tangible solutions. That all is true talent and the only thing that might separate you from that final business break through, not separate, no, but just delay for awhile, is that uninhibitedly bold creative mind of yours! Plus that luck and right connections ofc. I am quite convinced that a man with your drive, visions, creativity and abilities cannot fail forever in the conventional sense of the term! Good luck on your road ahead! And you are a history major, that is the creme and cherry on the top of the cake. How did all this happen!? :D

Produce a step by step by step guide to making one of these and I'll be your first customer. Is it powerful enough to use on a full size tennis court, and can it be powered by rechargeable batteries? And importantly, would the final weight make it possible for a teenager to transport to the courts using a bycycle or trolley?

Nice job, have you considered a model that throws left and right and at different heights? Thats where I am stuck and have not figured out how to get the feed to work from the ball repository to the launcher wheels.

I walk through the hardware store and look and see the prices and that motivate me to use junk i have. i take two sawhorses in the yard with a piece of plywood on top for a bench. i make or fix everything. His idea of CNC mill is way to expensive. Just get a small what us machinist call a toy mill

I have my own personal method I've perfected over the years for creating that perfect 'tennis ball machine. Like you, I go to the hardware store and with an open mind, walk around until I find a tennis ball machine and buy it. Not quite as interesting as your idea, but the end result is the same.
