I don't understand Neris, or any other pitcher, who has 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th and is worried about the runner on 1st. Get the guy out at the plate and the game is over. Nice blown save and taking away a win from Brown who was awesome.
@johnmarquardt94755 ай бұрын
To be fair, it's because the runner got to second that he was able to score on the single. It does matter, he just messed up and gave away a free base.
@srellison5615 ай бұрын
@@johnmarquardt9475 I understand the logic, but I've seen too many pitchers over the years so focused on the base runners, that they're not focusing enough on the batter. And like you said, he balked, so basically gave away what he was trying to stop. I hope they can find a reliable closer. Hendricks might actually be worth a try, he's usually solid for the first 2 innings. But he may need a longer warm-up than your usual closer gets.

You know, I think both the complete no hit by Brown and what they ended up doing in the 10th would’ve had the same effect for the Cubs’ energy: a revitalization from a spectular performance on all levels. I feel awful for Megill though, dude was obviously in a ton of pain.

Biggest blunder of the game in my eyes: Why do you not pinch hit Wisdom for Amaya with the Bases loaded in the 9th. You knew that Gomes was getting into the game later anyways, and sure Miggy had the 2 hits, but he's not getting #3. Pinch Hit Wisdom and at least give yourself some prayer at some protection in the bottom half, which ultimately we needed.

Kid had a no-hitter going. I understand being careful with their pitch count but I would let him at least try to finish the no-hitter. I hate when managers do that. @ryanaltfillisch71555 ай бұрын
Nah, taking him out was 100% the right call. As great as he was, you could just tell he was a bit gassed at the end. He was hanging more curves over the heart of the plate and the fastball location wasn't as great either. Plus, it's still May. If this were August, then sure, let him go, but they will need him later in the season and Brown has never thrown more than 104 innings in a season before, so they gotta be a bit cautious with him. Take him out with some momentum and confidence and hope he can carry it over to the next game.
