Assad pitches immaculately for 8 innings and picks off 2 runners. The SECOND Leiter Jr. stepped up to the mound everything fell apart. This happened against the Brewers AND the Pirates, and now it's happened to the Reds. SMH.

So lemme get this straight Ross. U bring in a new guy for the 9th w a 1 run lead after ur starter gives u 8 shutout innings. The guy immediately loads the bases w no outs. You leave him in when he clearly doesn’t have his best stuff. He allows the 4th straight guy on base. Reds tie. You still leave him in. Fine, maybe u want to show faith in ur guy, give him a chance to work his way out. He somehow gets an out without allowing a run to score, momentum is finally back on his side, and Now u take him out? We did not deserve to win this game. Assad deserved so much better. We desperately need another reliable arm w Stroman getting injured, and Assad’s been exactly what we needed these past couple months. The guy’s been a godsend. Sad we couldn’t come through for him today. I love Rossy but god he butchered this game.

Bullpen is exhausted and there are still injuries being dealt with. McClains out, India (not sure he was contributing a ton, but out), votto out (i know he isnt much, but he is still a leader) and most of the rookies are just kind of slumping. They need to make adjustments as the MLB has made adjustments to them. Im sure they will figure it out at some point. Just takes time

The Reds are the worst base running team in the league. Having so many fast guys has caused them to take too many risks on the bases. Too big a lead at first, running when it wasn’t needed, getting caught trying to stretch singles into doubles. They need to tighten this up NOW.

They also lead the league in stolen bases. They definitely need to tighten it up, but I feel like this is expected on a team with a bunch of really fast rookies. Gotta take the good with the bad. @@SignalCorps1

This is what happens when your team success is built on an average pitching staff and the offense piling up lots of runs...when the offense goes cold and you have to rely on a shaky pen, you end up losing a game where the other team tried to gift you the win by getting thrown out on the basepaths.

Nice job Ross. Gods getting back at you for the way you treat Wisdom. When was the last time he played a whole ball game? I think he only got to bat twice in that game. He's hitting the ball hard and not striking out. But who was striking out? Maybe Wisdom needs a little faith. You may not have lost that game if you left him in . And I know he has had games where he just about struck out every at bat but not when he's hitting the ball. His next at bat could have maybe won the game for you. You didn't give him that chance. Think about it. Let him play a whole game. How can he stay ready if his playing is so erratic? and playing in a game is alot different than staying ready to play. I know you know that.

Time for baseball to go back to trusting starters to complete games, especially when throwing a shutout. When you are throwing a shutout through eight innings it is obvious that you “own” that team. Going to the bullpen only gives the other team a sense of “OK! We couldn’t touch him, now we have a chance…”. There is more to baseball than just statistics. There is a psychology at work, especially in close games when a pitcher is dominant. Just go back to when guys like Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, Tom Seaver and Greg Maddox were throwing complete games . A lot of those were 1 run games and they weren’t about to come out.

doesn't make a lot of sense ... people were saying we've got to keep playing our brand of baseball (when we were on a 3-game streak yesterday). What is our brand? If anything, it's been back up average pitching with huge numbers of runs. THAT was our brand. Then in the Milwaukee series we weren't putting up hardly any runs, but neither were they. That was odd--for both teams. We toughed it out and won in the 9th in the last two games of that series. The Reds series has been similar--we held one-run leads into the 9th. But this time we imploded in the 9th and they walked it off. Just so rough to take. And consider that we could have had the best starting rotation in baseball and it still would have come out the same way. Frankly it seems so clear that somebody is just pushing buttons. (puts on tin foil hat). In the larger picture, Cubs had 74 wins in all of 2022. We are at 72 right now. If we sold we might not have even made 74 for the year. I can handle rebuilds but we need to post improvement from year to year, and the money that was spent in the off season meant we should post some progress. And we will no matter what happens. And it's great experience for everyone still around next year. I mean I'm not giving up we are still up 2 in the last wild card I think if i'm reading the standings right.
