the dialect of Ulster Irish and Scottish gaelic was / is very similar, sure Scottish gaelic came from north Ireland in the first place.

All Gaelic came from the same language and developed differently over time, just as Spanish and Portuguese are from Latin and are very similar.

Gàidhlig and Manx are very similar. It is interesting that Manx has the Cuchulain story too. I associate that with Ireland.
