I was the only one who told our family beagle no when growing up. I made her learn to go sit in her bed while we ate. While everyone let her sit beside them and stare at them for food. But I was only the one who spent lots of time with her. I let her fall asleep in my lap countless times growing up. I was the only one who she would come up to and curl up in a ball in my lap even when she was an old dog.

My neighbor had a Bassett named Gator. He was the sweetest fella. He would chase the car when we would come home with his big ears flying straight back. Love to be loved.

I grew up with my dad’s basset after he passed away unexpectedly at just barely 42… He named him Snoozer VanWinkle on his paper. Because he slept all the time. He was a great hound😔as we grew up and had families of our own my sister and I both got a basset mine was named ElsieBells the sweetest bested dog ever especially with my little granddaughter! She crawled around on her but I made sure she didn’t pull her ears nothing to hurt her. My granddaughter would lay next to her dog bowl while she was eating and hand her her food! Elsie was also a sweet quiet hound who rarely barked and never ever growled. 😢

I had a Bassett Hound when I was growing up. They're the sweetest dogs. I don't think I've ever encountered one that was anything but sweet to all people. Weezy has a good life here with his parents! Great story.

Weezy is beautiful. For first-time basset owners food sometimes well meaning is killing with kindness. That long spine and weight hanging down is so hard on the back. Letting them jump down is also. I had a baby gate on my kitchen for 14 yrs. It is so hard to say no. I am guilty as well, even knowing better as a certified vet tech. When they are old it is very hard watching the struggle with all that extra Wright. I also learned a doggie door is hard on their knees and back and the lifetime impact shows as they become seniors. Lower the door to where they can basically walk through. I had a brother sister pair. I miss them immensely. Thanks for sharing, Weezy. Great name.

We just adopted a 3 year old female basset and she reminds me a lot of Weezy personality wise. We’ve followed Weezy for a few years and I really wanted a female basset. Lucy is perfect. Sweet, sassy, lovable and loving. She also loves my hubby more than me but that’s ok!

I adore dogs.. can't ever skip petting one. Grew up with Spaniels, and Staffy's. Love big farm dogs, but my Basset Hounds were extraordinary. They aren't like any other breed. They have a way of looking at you, and to me are like a child. I adore, adore, adore Basset Hounds, and still pine for my Yogi who passed in 2011. My work schedule and living environment precludes pet ownership for their quality of life. But I love this story and know how this works. They have a way of touching one's heart and soul, and are extraordinary dogs,

Nothing like taking care of an animal just like you said, it brings so much joy. You guys seem to be nice and kind hearted animal loving people. All I want to say to you is if you really want your dog to live a long, happy, healthy life please stop feeding them kibble it is very dangerous. It’s not safe. It kills animals and it has. so much junk in it for lack of a better word. I know you might not care about what I’m saying somebody you don’t know telling you not to feed your dog kibbles out of the blue, but if you do the research, you will know exactly what I’m talking about.

This is how I expect Basset Hounds to be but my son and I were walking into a shop and there was one tied up outside and it took a chunk out his leg! I'm a dog lover but am very aware of strange dogs because I would paet any dog when I was little and get bitten so we'd given it lots of room and still it bit him. I'm so wary of them now nits a shame because they are so cute
