Que bueno que sigas aprendiendo español eso es importante si vives en Ecuador. Aunque muchos hablamos en inglés, indiscutiblemente debes de aprenderlo. Saludos.

I love plantains-I could almost live on them alone…with some cheese empanadas, pan de yuca, and lentils.

My biggest surprise in Cuenca was how much I enjoyed the food...tigrillo is one of my favorite breakfasts now

Great video, subscribed. I wonder if in Ecuador you can order from Amazon or Ebay and have things delivered the same way as in the US. And medicine such as insulin if it's available as in the US pharmacies, if anyone knows drop a reply. Looks so calmer there than some cities in here. I would love to visit that little town some day. Great videos.

Thanks for the video tour, the sound is great on your recording 👍. That was a great price compared to the states. I've paid that price alone for extra special eggs. Doing great and I hope you all are also. Thumbs 👍 and happy weekend to you both.

the sound is great? I love to hear that...I worry about the sound on these videos I make with my phone; it sounds pretty good to me too, but I wonder sometimes if I'm just used to hearing it over and over as I edit, so I lose all objectivity--thanks!

The barrio where el Centro Comercial Batán is in barrio Batán. The street that runs behind the mall is Calle del Batan. Curiously, the barrio and the mall have the accent on the 2nd "a' but the street name does not. Most of the barrio is to the west of the mall.
@SlowpokeTravel Жыл бұрын
I'm surprised how often we ended up going to the mall in that area...but outside the food court on the mall balcony was a good place to sip a coffee, although not the best coffee
@billobrien4680 Жыл бұрын
@@SlowpokeTravel If you haven't been to Mall del Rio (the biggest one) or Monay Shopping Center you should check them out. I'm not sure you will find better coffee but it's worth a try. People tell me that the coffee is good at Ooh la la Café.

We tried Ooh La La for coffee and dessert and liked it...Ooh La La had my 2nd favorite carrot cake (No.1 is Cafe del Zaguan)

@@SlowpokeTravel Another great place is Flora Café on Plaza Otorango. Nucallacta has fantastic carrot cake (we usually go to the Av. Loja location.) ¡Buen provecha!

Looks like a fancy French pastry called a palmier. But in Ecuador!
@SlowpokeTravel Жыл бұрын
I love palmiers--I fell in love with them at a French bakery is Seattle. Over the years, I've tried many Latin American baked goods that look like palmiers, and they never quite are! I've tried "orejas" at several different panaderias in Ecuador, and most are very good, but not quite as good as the French variations (the Latin variations are often more "chewy" than "flaky". In Florida, I often find baked goods at Cuban bakeries that look like palmiers, and they always disappoint!--they're always too chewy! I had the same experience at bakeries in Mexico--too chewy. The orejas in Cuenca are the closest I've found to palmiers, but they're not quite palmiers. I even tried a supposedly French bakery in Cuenca, but the palmier was an oreja :^)

Kudos to you for making it to the top of the stairs. That looked like a good opportunity to call an URBER... Lol . I had wondered if you already knew Spanish. You get another Kudos for taking some lessons. How much longer are you planning staying?

We had access to Uber in Guayaquil, but Uber is not an option in Cuenca! We've found the taxis to be a great value, though, although we've only used them twice in Cuenca--since we like walking and pack light enough to not always need transport, even when changing locales with all of our luggage. We booked a 2-month housesit back in the USA, so we're only maxing out our 3-month tourist visa in Ecuador.

When I visited Cuenca last year, the guards didn’t like me filming inside or taking pictures and asked me not to.
@SlowpokeTravel Жыл бұрын
nobody ever told me not to film, but I never really shot video around guards...I wish I could have gotten good video footage inside the markets, but I never felt comfortable filming there

give yourself a thumbs up, you are trying to learn Spanish that is Glad not sad. keep going . i remind myself im still learning English although its my first language, Cuenca a nice place I hope to visit
@SlowpokeTravel Жыл бұрын
I do enjoy practicing Spanish, which is good because the enjoyment is the #1 benefit--I'm sure not speaking or understanding the language very well! I need to work harder at it, but then that would be work, so....

Is it overcast most of the time down there? 👍♥️✌🙏🇺🇸
@SlowpokeTravel Жыл бұрын
in the mountains the weather changes fast, so it can go from clear and sunny to overcast and then back again throughout the day...I never left home without a long sleeve shirt to put on, either to protect from the cool of an overcast day or the rays of the sun...it could really go either way at any time

Nomades and Sunshine Cafes--both on Calle Larga--have great breakfasts. Just about $6 for an nice omelette with accompaniments including coffee.

we enjoy Sunrise Cafe on Calle Larga, but we never tried Nomades...at Sunrise they'd come and refill your coffee cup, which was not the norm at most places we breakfasted
