Well done video! I just got one, and after seeing your video, I feel well prepared to start making some things! I think that etching on clear acrylic or glass would be easy to do by just putting a design underneath the piece and tracing it? Also, is it safe to print out a paper template and go over the outline with the tool? It looks like a grand idea! Well done video!🎉

where would you recommend looking for a single bit replacement (multiple of those) it's one of the high quality diamond bits in the additional drill kit. I believe it's a 3/32’ (1.3mm) diamond ball tip - I am guesstimating that size as it's the same size on the Lee Valley engraving pen. Thanks in advance

I have a dremmel that can do everything that the Culiau can do and more. It has the tool itself, but it also has the snake pen attachment for exactly this type of work. I have hardly used it. The way the snake pulls my hand as I am using it is not comfortable, for refined details, that is no good. I feel like the dremmel just takes too much to use. I have the culiau pen and its great. Its the opposite of the dremmel. Compact, easy to use, the pen is more ergonomic than holding the big dremmel or using the snake. Its not as noisy, it doesnt vibrate as much, its easier to control (for me). As far as the bits go, I read that they are only good for a few hours of consistent use (the caliau bits) but they give you so many, you have plenty of ways to work around one bit getting dull or sharpened and its only $20 to replace them all. The cons are that its battery operated and it tends to get hot when I use it, I feel like I am going to overheat it. That is it. And as I get more advanced in my skills, maybe I will want to move to the dremmel, but for figuring out the ropes on engraving, this pen is perfect. My mom got it for me for Christmas and its easily one of the coolest art/craft gifts that I have ever gotten.

QUESTION Hi! I am completely new to all this, and I don't know if you can answer this question. Is there a massive difference between this Culiau pen compared to all the other "identical" pens on amazon that costs less than half the price of the Culiau pen? And don't just say, "It is more expensive, so it must be better", because as we know today many companies takes extra money just because of the label of their company etc. Hehe!
@UncleFrogface Жыл бұрын
I can absolutely answer that question. Culiau hold several patents for the customizer which aren’t part of the cheaper pens. The parts, battery life and torque of the pen are all far superior to the cheaper knock off brands. Essentially, this is like the difference between a posca paint marker and a generic dollar store paint marker. They might look the same, but the experience is vastly different. Also, Culoau is a growing brand in the craft sector who actually care about the customer experience. There customer services have always been great and they will happily answer any questions people have. I hope that helps. 😉

Whilst it not a cutting tool, there are cutting attachments on their website. However, the adaptor is a good call as you can then also use standard dremel bits. I was wondering if it carves different eggshells well. The picture on the website is not high quality engraving of an eggshell. It’s just some holes in a chicken egg. Can you show something more decorative on an egg that is harder than a chicken egg. For example, goose, rhea, emu or ostrich eggs would be ideal. If you need pieces of these eggshells for demonstration, let me know and I can send you some scraps of each. Thank you.

'Aluminium sharpener?'. Any tool will mar pewter as it is one of softer metals. Any burr in any rotating tool will engrave or mark pewter. All you will need is mastery in controlling the 'pen' as if an ordinary writing tool..However you will find it highly challenging to use it in the sense of good looking calligraphy quality work so much exercise needed before venturing into pewter engraving.
