CULLEN UH Hanger Installation: Steel beam with a packer, I-Joist connection

A short animation showing how to install a Cullen Universal Hanger (UH) to a steel beam with a packer within. This is an I-Joist floor version.

How to install UH to Steel Beam with Packer Within:
Fixings: Use 3.4 x 35mm square twist nails.
1) Fit the steel section with a timber packer. The timber packer must be the full depth of the steel face and a minimum of C16 grade timber. The packer must be securely fitted to the steel section. Fixings to be specified by the building designer.
2) Align the hanger on the steel beam to line through with the joist position.
3) Fill 1No of the top nail holes on each side of the hanger - this will ensure the hanger remains level whilst filling all other nail holes.
4) Fill the remaining nail holes including the triangular optional holes into the timber packer.
5) Bend and snap off the top tabs.
6) Drop the incoming member into the hanger and fill 4No nails into the top and bottom chords/flanges.
Please note that the drop of the hanger below the steel must not exceed 30% of the joist depth. An additional packer will need to be securely fitted to the underside of the beam to prevent rotation under the steel section.
