Okay, so, I am a Cullen apologist lololol but yes, they retconned Cullens ending, he was sent to Kirkwall because there was no way he could have stayed in the Ferelden circle after all that happened to him there, so he got a new job at another circle. I will try my best not to spoil much about his story, but he will get worse before he gets better, and it is all because of his trauma from all that torture, and because Kirkwall circle is especially strict and antagonistic towards mages, meaning he is surrounded by people who echo to him that mages are dangerous, mages are bad, etc. But Cullen at his heart is a good man, he just really needs therapy. Argh, I love Cullen so much, but I can't gush too much about why because spoilers 😭 I'm glad you are having a good time with DA2, although it has its flaws thanks to super short development cycle, the characters and the story more than make up for it imo. And it's good to give Isabela some pants, it's way colder in Kirkwall than in Rivain lolol fun fact, I dont remember if any devs have ever confirmed this, but Thedas is likely located on the southern hemisphere of the planet, because the more south you go, the colder it gets, and the more north, the warmer.

Oh yikes about Cullen getting worse before he gets better😬. It’s so hard, because there are these little moments where you can see he *could* be a good man, but mages aren’t people?!? Oh my…what a take. We’ll have to see if I get more interaction with him in DA2! That’s so cool about Rivain and Fereldan. Isabela has to be freezing all the time then!

​@_shhenanigans_ Fellow Cullen fan/apologist, he gets worse before he gets better. As OP said, what happened to him at the Ferelden Circle has left some deep psychological wounds that need time (and lots of therapy) to heal. Cullen saw the mages, his charges, turn into abominations or summon demons. He watched horrified as his friends, fellow templars, were slaughtered, and he himself was tortured. He was denied food, water, sleep, and Lyrium for days, all while a desire demon tormented him with scenarios involving Shen, his crush. He was only around 19 at the time. His fear and mistrust of mages is understandable, and the environment in Kirkwall's circle is the worst place for him to be if he's to recover, and Knight-Commander Meredith is not above using his PTSD to her advantage.

there is NO reason, character-wise or plot-wise for isabela to not be wearing pants under that tunic, you are more than within your right to put those pants on her, queen. fenris' mistrust of mages is so understandable and I'm saying this as a mage/blood-magic apologist lololol. it just shows how good the writing of this series is - there's such an interesting and nuanced discussion surrounding magic and the fade and mages and templars, the chantry as well!

Yay next part! 😊 I kinda understand why Cullen and Fenris are that way it makes sense. Fenris, lived in a place where magic is at it extreme, he practicly just saw the worse of magies and he doesnt technicly blame magic for the bad things but more of how are people in general, most people will want more power, money, control for diverse reasons even good ones. Tevinter is a really good exemple of what people can do if they have the means and liberty and magic is a very powerful tool for that. For Cullen, at the start of origins he was more naive and was more on the fence about magies, he didnt really see what a mage could do. Its really the torture and watching his templar friends dying in front of him during the circle mission that broked him, he didnt always have this kind of view but now he is scared of them. I find that sad...☹️

Shan you want to explore the areas little more beyond quests markers, there are interesting stuff to find that are not marked as quests. for example in Hightown, close to the place where you first talked to Bartranad, there are some familiar faces you will recognize :) glad you found DLC's :) In terms of Cullen, yeah this game sometimes gives you whiplashes with some retcons. I mean they still kept Cullen's traumatic past in the circle etc, but those descriptions of him going crazy and whatnot after Origins were a little over the top lol

Playing dragon age 2 actually made me change my mind regarding the mage and templar issue. After learning about the Magisters, mage's temptations and demonic posessions (which could occur within any mage regardless of their intention btw), it personally made me change my stance on believing in total mage freedom. Not saying that the current system is good and the chantry is corrupt as shit but there should be a more balanced take. I really love what this game did in this regard.

Honestly, in my opinion Dragon Age 2 is one of the most 'personal' dragon age in the series and it can get you invested in all of the characters. It's like character exploration deeper than the other dragon ages. Even Hawke's relationship with the companions (the friendship and rivalry thing) solidifies Hawke as a person, and that their presence does matter to their friends and does change them in so many different ways... I love Hawke probably more than the Warden and, later, the Inquisition MC. Though while others felt like self-insert, Hawke is... Hawke, and not "the player". And that is why I love Hawke lol Also I love Cully wully Cullen, his innocent heart is so broken and it is evident he always has conflicting thoughts in his mind. Like he fears mages, but then he fell in love to a mage in Origins and so on, it's like his heart is telling him something else, his head something else, and his fear and experience, entirely something else. Poor man is in deep PTSD

another quick tip. Fenris is a beast in a fight but he has notoriously little stamina and always keeps running out. you can see how small his yellow stamina bar is compared to his health. and tho his strength and constitution are most important as worrier you really want to give him some extra willpower points to offset that, so he can always use all his devastating skills :)

Fenris will regain Stamina when he kills an enemy, which he does very quickly based on his abilities and attack speed. Fenris is not meant to be a Tank like Aveline is, so he's meant to kill enemies as quickly as possible. You can put some points into Willpower, but it's more worth it to put them into Strength for him to increase his killing ability.

I did say "some points", I didn't say all the points. :) I did say strength is more important too. I literally meant like 2-3 extra points, tops. he needs some extra willpower. especially when he activates Lyrium ghost, than activates Rally on top of it.. and that drains his stamina additionally. putting few points into willpower makes his stamina pool bigger and allowes him to use all his attacks more often. I defeated this game on Nightmare many times and realized it makes a good difference. otherwise later on in bigger and longer fights you often hear him say "I am beginning to tire" and "I will not last at this rate" which are his low stamina dialogues :)

@@jhornacek also he only regenerates stamina on kill if you give him those passives and skills, like "Inner Reserves"... which requires you to be level 15

@@mayaamis All Warriors regain Stamina when they kill an enemy. Fenris doesn't need any special talents/passives for this to happen. If you put enough points into Strength, Fenris will be killing enemies so quickly that he will regain enough Stamina for you to use your Talents again. You can put points into Willpower, but they're better spent going into Strength (or Constitution).

You can't romance Aveline, no matter what Hawke's gender is. There are some interactions with her during some of her quests where you can flirt with her, but they don't lead to anything. And you can flirt with her without worrying about it interfering with any other active romance with another companion.

While the DLCs can be done anytime, most people say they should be done in Act 3. You will find some equipment during them that improves based on what Hawke's Level is when you start them. So if you do them in Act 1 you will find some nifty new equipment but it will soon be out of date by the time you start Act 2. But if you wait until Act 3 then the equipment will be more powerful and likely be good enough to last you until the end of the game.

Personally, I’m very in the middle about it. I like the art style, but wish the character creator was a little more flexible. I love the story, don’t like the combat, etc.

yes glad you found DLC and Dogo! gear is nice but Dogo is most important :) oh and the best best to play the 2 DLC towards end of the game somewhere in act 3, they are pretty high level :) you will notice after you transfer all the new DLC stuff great in your chest there are some cool necklaces and rings designed especially for individual companions :)

@@_shhenanigans_ you'll find them :) it's only rings and amulets.. on description at the bottom of those it says "Restriction: Fenris", "Restriction: Varric", etc... :) yeah those DLC chests burry you in stuff lol and the thing is most armor you can't use, since it's only for you and you can only use stuff for one class.. there is some nice weapons tho. I know there is a nice greatsword for Fenris. Only remember that because you can find new better weapons for everyone else in shops and loot but for some reason it's really hard to find better greatsword anywhere in act 1 so I remember I always give him once from the chest...

Hi Shen - LTFT :) Just in terms of you finding some of the side quests easy - I think this is basically because the game lets you choose what order you want to do quests in, so for example Avalines personal quest is available quite early so the combat can't be too difficult as otherwise the players who do it straight away would be really under levelled. The main quests however scale and expect you to have levelled so you will see some difficulty spikes at times during the game There's one great skill for a DW rogue that is so great to have but I won't say it in case you consider that a spoiler - let me know though if you want to know what it is Love the series, it made me dust off my PS3 and boot up DA2 for the first time in 10 years :)

It's interesting to see in which order other people do the quests in this game. I have seen several playthroughs and many players have really stuck to Kirkwall for a long time, before really doing anything outside the city with the exception of Aveline's quest. In my playthroughs, making the "delivery" for Flemeth is usually one of the earlier quests I finish, just for role playing reasons. I wouldn't want to upset a "dragon lady". lol I am not the biggest fan of the DLC items as I feel some of them take away from the game because they level up with the character. I prefer to "hunt" for better equipment throughout the game. Also, some of the DLC items make your party really OP for stretches of the game and that is kind of boring to me. So, I usually just get the accessories for my compainions, but leave the rest. It's also a shame that the items spoil the names of your companions even if you haven't recruited them yet.

The Tal-Vashoth are Qunari that have gone rogue (not the Class) and have left the Qun (the Qunari religion). They're like Qunari outlaws. You will learn more about them in a quest you get later in Act 1, but you can't get that quest yet. You may want to deliver Flemeth's amulet to the Dalish. Just saying.

When you freed Keran, if you had Anders or ... another Mage ... in your party, they could've tested him to confirm he's not possessed. Unfortunately Bethany doesn't have any experience dealing with demons so she wasn't able to test him. Even a Mage Hawke is unable to test him here.

Regarding the conversation with the manager of The Blooming Rose that seemed to happen automatically, I think you might have clicked on her just as your conversation with Viveka ended. So that's why she started talking to you and offered you the brothel's services. She doesn't talk to you automatically when you enter this room unless you click on her.

Your Hawke has reached Level 7 so you gained a specialization point. You'll get another one at Level 14. You only get 2 so you can only get 2 specializations, so it's up to you which ones you choose.

In Isabela's prequel short story (no spoilers) the excuse for wearing only her white shift is becausd she had only JUST washed up from her shipwreck and didn't have all her clothes weighing her down! Only about 20 minutes in but if you haven’t found out yet in your skills is a dog icon. If you put it on your hot bar it’ll summon your dog and he’ll stay until you leave the map area. Each zone you’ll need to resummon him

Isabela’s character model is definitely one of the more sexualized ones in DA. That being said, it never bothered me because it fits her character, which is very promiscuous and mischievous. Similarly, Aveline is the opposite to Isabela, more conservative and prudish, and her character design fits that idea as well with her being a heavily armored guard captain. But I totally get the pants also. Sometimes it feels weird having a character running around half naked all the time, especially if you have no intention of romancing them haha.

You can still romance either Fenris or Isabela even if they are both in your party. They will flirt with each other but having them in the party together does not mean you can't romance either of them.

She talks with Hawke (and with other companions) multiple times about how she uses her sexuality to get what she wants. She chooses to dress this way because she knows she can use it against men (and woman) to distract them. It's literally part of her character. But I agree, what a discussion to change who she is by putting pants on her here.

@ 49:00 and1:08:00 That what happen when your personality locked to be a joker, nobody takes you seriously. Only a hard badass no BS Hawke can intimidate and forcing people around. And only helpful diplomatic Hawke can inspire people and get their trust. A joker sarcastic Hawke is the weakest personality, it will be a problem in the long run. Avoid choosing the purple mask response if you want to change this in the future. Otherwise, your Hawke is a fun character but a joke...can't be serious in the matter of death and destruction.

I don’t know if it’s fair to say purple Hawke is the weakest personality because based on my comments it is by far one of the more popular personalities. Also, myself and my family are incredibly sarcastic and often use humor to deal with and get through a lot of traumatic situations, so those selections are appealing to me. I would caution saying things like this to a first time player (or really just any gamer) as it kind of comes across as you’re raining on their parade, their fun and how they want to play the game.

While you are correct about an aggressive personality being able to threaten Liam here, you're wrong about the humorous personality being the weakest one. Each personality has bonuses throughout the game. There will be times when having a humorous personality will give you options that a diplomatic or aggressive personality will not offer you. Also, the weakest personality is the best one because it has the best dialogue.

@@_shhenanigans_ Ok if that is your choice. It is a popular choice because it is funny. but in the game about death, blood, demons and war...to joke about all these is weak. If my friend joke about someone who their family member dies in tragedy, or joke about a country got obliterated by bombs, I will never talk to my friend again. But it is your game, I respect that. I won't mention anything in the future.

@@_shhenanigans_ its not something you need to stress over tho because your personality is never locked permanently.. I think it takes like 5 same choices in a row to swtich, so if you took 5 aggressive choices in several next dialogues your general personality switches to that... and it can switch into smth else just as easily. it doesn't really have much importance in the game in general either other than your personal roleplay
