Oh my goodness that is a beautiful multi-colored carpet! The best thing to use on animal urine of any kind is white vinegar. It completely neutralizes the odor and disinfects at the same time. You would need to soak the carpet in the spots where there is urine with plain white undiluted vinegar, making sure it goes all the way through the carpet. Let is sit for a few minutes then use the shop vac or the carpet cleaner machine to get the vinegar out of the carpet, then rinse with plain water. Works like a charm.

+spidermonkey1014 I have never added it directly into the carpet cleaner or mixed it with cleaning solution. Not sure what would happen chemically if mixed with cleaners. I do use the carpet cleaner to get it up but then I empty the cleaner quickly and add plain water to go back over the carpet to get the vinegar out. Just be sure to rinse the carpet cleaner out afterward.

+spidermonkey1014 I have a pet spot cleaner carpet cleaner and I use a white vinegar/water solution in it. It works wonderfully. My dog had a bladder infection and had a few accidents from it so her urine smelled terrible like 10 times worse than normal. Completely gets rid of the smell and you don't end up with sopping wet carpet just damp until it air dries. I do 4oz of white vinegar to 20oz water.

Nature's miracle is a product that eliminates pet odors and discourages them from peeing in the same spot, you might want to try that.

I used that when my puppy was young. It works well, and it is non toxic. I know because on the way back from a huge PetCo haul, and it spilled all over $200 of pet items. I asked his breeder if it would be okay to give him the toys that it had spilled on. She said yes, and he hasn't as any problems with it! :)

I love that Gaines still says "Nastics"!! My favorite :) Our last rug we had to just throw away (after the puppy got all different types of fluids on it!). We used the rug doctor on it and experienced the same thing with the smell almost being worse.... I recently tried rubbing baking soda in to the carpet and letting it sit and then vacuuming it up to get rid of odors. That did seem to work well...although there was a huge amount of baking soda kicked up in to the air when I turned on the vacuum...

Natures miracle!! We swear by it!! Puppies and kittens it works for both and it has special enzymes that break down the pet stuff. It gets rid of the odor and we have never had a problem with them going in the same spot twice

I've this several times in the past and it always goes ignored😩The majority of cleaners in the supermarket contain ammonia. You won't smell the urine, afterwards because it's covered up by perfumes in the cleaner, but it's basically like putting more pee on the pee. Your dogs will be even MORE likely to go on that spot!!! You need either Nature's Miracle or Anti Icky Poo. You have to use a lot and it won't smell better until it's completely dry, but it DOES work! Also, Nature's Miracle has a solution specifically for carpet cleaners, available on Amazon. Lastly, as dogs get older they can have trouble holding it. It's just a reality, the same as humans. I can recommend the Doggie Lawn. It's a box of REAL grass and soil that's delivered to your house every couple of weeks or so. It's a great alternative to puppy pads because it's obviously mimicking the outside. Not sure what the ingredients are for the carpet cleaner you just used...often times the "pet formulas" still contain ammonia. And if they don't contain ammonia, they are pretty much just covering the odor. Nature's Miracle has an enzyme that actually eats the bacteria that causes the smell. Highly, highly recommended by every pet owner that I know!😎

BLESS HER HEART! ;) Haha I love hearing Katie say that Southern saying hehe I just wanted to say I really love seeing how great of parents y'all are! You handle her sensitivity SO WELL! I really think she will overcome a lot of her sweet little fears and such, because of how well y'all handle it! I'm sure its NOT always easy to keep a level head with a toddler, especially a sweet sensitive little bug like Gaines! Haha I know I'm not alone in that tho LOL But seriously..keeping calm and almost not reacting (or just straight up ignoring it) seems to help a lot! I really like how Katie handles herself and the situation whenever MG is upset or scared. Y'all are such awesome parents! Brooks and Macey are so lucky! :) I wish I had parents like y'all! I have SEVERE anxiety and my mom just never was able to help me with that...she actually made it WORSE. I'm extremely sensitive and can relate to MG. I wish my mom had been better at handling my fears and such when I was little, cos I feel like thats why I have such horrible anxiety and depression now. I cant even begin to describe how much it hurts to feel so misunderstood, worthless and unwanted by your family :( Y'all are so sweet and genuine people. Cullen you had mentioned that after you did the carpets the smell was brought out more. I know from experience that not all stores clean the rug doctors so it still has the dirt and smell from the people who used it previously. Would it be better to just go out and purchase your own? I just thought I would share that with you.

With littles & pets in the house, I have just added rug cleaning to the to-do list on a quarterly basis. Also, if you have a steam mop like the shark it has a carpet attachment that will help freshen rugs/carpets and steam odors out. It's not as heavy duty as an actual carpet cleaning machine but it works for upkeep. 👍🏻

PS, as a vet, I was told honestly by a local reputable rug-cleaning business, that there is no way to totally remove the urine scent from most rugs. You might not notice it, but the animals will still pick up the odor, even if rug professionally cleaned. If it gets damp in the house, you'll probably smell at least a vague urine odor still there. The products like Nature's Miracle can help some, but truly the best solution is to get rid of the rug (and you'll need to try Nature's Muracke and some good floor cleaner to clean the floor where accidents have occurred.). Do try to figure out if a dog or a cat is doing it, and please bring that animal for.a vet exam and a urinalysis.

I know it's a big change but we don't wear our shoes in our house (South Carolina - no snow here either, haha) and when I mop our floors I barely get any dirt on the cloth! I swear it makes a huge difference. We don't wear shoes on our carpeted areas either and they look like they did the day we had them installed! For me it's mostly because I'm a germaphobe and shoes carry in a ton of bacteria but it also really helps to keep regular old dirt out of your house! Food for thought anyway! But Cullen you are one hard working man going through all that to get your carpet clean! More power to you!

My husband doesn't worry about germs either but once we made it a habit it was easy - he's even come over to the "dark" side now that he realizes how much cleaner our floors are than other houses we visit! If you use concentrated Odoban that comes in a gallon jug instead of the other stuff with the carpet cleaner it will get rid of the scent. That is what I have to use since i have a male dog and his pee has a strong musky odor to it. It works way better than the recommended stuff for carpet cleaners. Hope this helps for next time!

Isn't it nice to know you aren't the only ones with trained dogs that like carpet! I've found it happens in two instances. Dog has a urinary tract infection or inclement weather. I agree with a pet cleaner with an enzyme in it. The only way to get rid of the pee and not cover it up! Good luck!!!

I'd always say to any homeowners to invest in a VAX. My parents have always had one & I don't remember a time when my brothers haven't borrowed it to deep clean carpets (from having children to pets), or I've borrowed it from having animals & to freshen carpets up. I know the VAX they have doubles up as a vacuum too. They've had it for so many years now & it's still going strong. They've bought dysons & others inbetween but always go back to it. Hopefully the deep cleaning works, I know we had to deep clean twice a carpet (or rug) where our cats just would not stop marking & we had no idea why (& still don't). It helped taking the rug outside & putting it on the line to air dry a bit as it gets so wet, & once completely dry we done it again. Worked for us. Fingers crossed for you guys. Be careful of getting the wood wet underneath! Xx

Odoban works very well with stains. My hubby was a professional floor guy and that's what they use. Idk where they sell it but we pick up a big jug of it at home depot/lowes!

my mom and I rescued our first dog 4 years ago and she still has potty training issues. She still pees and poops in the house no matter what we do, luckily she only does it in 1 room we dont use, but it permanently smells in there. We steam clean the carpet every once and while and that helps some.

Cullen I completely understand. We have 2 dogs and our house it ALL carpet. I hate it. But we shampoo our carpets nearly every other month. So what we do for the odor. Vacuum the carpets, shampoo the carpet and then once dry, we sprinkle pet deodorizing baking soda. We got it from target in the pet section. It smells great and helps so much! Good luck!! And yes our water is just as dirty. Don't feel bad. I totally get it.
