Gaines has to learn that you need to spend time with brother too, in the morning one of y'all should take Gaines to play somewhere else and the other parents play with brooks and do this ever day to give him equal attention. You both don't need to be there at all times you could switch and the days that Gaines is at school or grand dolls house you both can be with brooks. Stay firm and be consistent.

We always divide and conquer. On Saturday mornings my daughter (3) has ballet, so whoever doesn't bring her spends time with our 6 year old son. Last weekend my hubby and son went ice fishing 😊

I'm not a perfect parent by any means, but I had this same problem with my daughter. She would not let us spend any time with our son. So I just had to stand strong and make her understand that baby brother needed mommy and daddy too. And when I was done with baby brother I would play with her. And after a few times of this she was playing by her self more and playing more with her baby brother. I wasn't mean about it just firm, she is now 23 and her baby brother is 21 and they have the closest bond I have ever seen.

I agree with Nedra - we did the same thing with our son, once our daughter was born shortly after his 2nd birthday. He wasn't too bad about monopolizing our time constantly, just every so often. He had spent time in our in-home daycare with other children, a couple older than him and a couple younger, so he was pretty used to playing with other kids or by himself.

Aw, what a precious little guy. Brooks is at such a fun age too where he hears and understands you and can really interact, while still being a cuddly little baby. His sweet kisses and laughter made my rough day a little brighter. I know it's tough to feel like you can't give him every second of attention his sister got, but honestly their sibling relationship is very enriching for him too. When he watches Gaines, listens to her, gets cuddles from her (and gets manhandled a bit, hahah), those are all wonderful ways for babies to learn and feel included.

I have 2 girls and a boy. I will definitely say that the girls fussed about more than my son does. It may have been that they were more careful, got injured less often, so had less "practice" on dealing with minor bumps. My son is a wild child and is always getting bruised, bumped, and injured in one way or another. He doesn't fuss unless it's bad.

It's a fact that an only child gets 100% attention. Nothing can change that. When siblings come along they have each other. Brooks is not lacking anything and he won't be scarred because he didn't get 100% of mom and dad's attention. It is worrisome that Gaines will look back on these videos someday and feel like she was an "aggravation" to mom and dad when they complain about her talking all the time and being "crazy" and hogging all the attention. Not trying to be mean, just an observation from someone that isn't so close to the situation that they can't see what could be hurtful in years to come.

You do the best you can. Your first child's experience will not be the same as your other children. That's OK. You take the one on one opportunities when you can. We raised 3 children who range in age from 30 - 22. They are loved and are wonderful adults. Just keep doing what you feel works for your family. Jill

What you could do is each of you set a side a day for each kid so one day Katie spends one on one time with Gaines while Cullen spends one on one time with brooks and the next day switch. What you are doing now is awesome letting granddolly take Gaines for the day lets Gaines see her Grandparents but you also get some alone time with brooks. YOU GUYS ARE DOING AMAZING!

I'm not a mother but I worked in a daycare for about 3 years and have a good amount of experience with children. When you work with multiple kids at the same time a lot of them are going to want your attention at the same time. Especially the toddlers. There would be a lot of kids who wanted constant attention and we had to teach them to play by themselves or classmates. Maybe use a timer and tell her to do a certain activity by herself in small increments of time and slowly add more time the more she gets used to it. After making this into a routine the kids get used to it and end up seeking less attention from the teacher or adults. Remember be consistent and firm but never mean. Hope this helps :)

Take the time when she is at school or Grand Dolly day and maybe at some point you can stagger their naps so when she is sleeping he is getting all your attention. I'm constantly saying poor second child about my youngest. I feel that even though she doesn't get the one-on-one time that my oldest did she has total social interaction with a child that my oldest didn't have. so I find that my youngest picks up on things faster because she sees my oldest do it. also when my youngest was a baby we would divide and conquer. and split having one on one time with each kid. as Brooks gets older it'll get easier to split the time. mainly because your oldest will want more alone time by their selves

Cullen and Katie- I always thought I would have 2 or 3 children. But from the day I brought my son home from the hospital my mind changed. I never ever wanted him to feel that he had to share my time. I work outside of the home so he already has to go to daycare 10 hours a day Monday through Friday and I hate he doesnt get to have the time with me and my husband that he should. I couldnt imagine adding in another child and taking more time from him or taking time from a new baby. I know it is so hard and I think you all do a great job with your sweet babies. I thank you for your honesty, because it has helped me to realize that I am not being unreasonable in my fear and that for me, my son, and my husband, we are making the right decision. Thank you!

This vlog was adorable! When I had my second child, my oldest had just turned 2, I would try to find age appropriate activities for him to do while I would get one on one time with the baby. Then I would do one on one time with my oldest while baby brother took his first nap. I won't lie, some days it was hard, I was a stay at home mom and my SO worked every day.
