I had no idea the director of this film also directed one of the lesser-known films that I adore: "Millenium". Cool.

I remember when I watched this movie at the age of 6 in the theater. I was so mesmerized by the special effects and the guns were so cool. I was too young to understand the social commentary but when I watched it later as a teenager, I understood. I remember when all the people were standing around the old man remarkably commenting on his features such as gray hair and wrinkles. I was thinking, seriously they never seen anyone over the age of 30? What would that be like to have such a miniscule view of the world? Good commentary and good movie, way to go sis!

@staciaonmovies I completely agree. When I was 4, my parents took me to watch Jaws and guess what we did afterwards? We went to the beach! LOL, I wouldn't touch the water and built my little sand castle with my pail and shovel, seeing a fin in every wave! 🙃

I remember watching this movie in my junior high English class! I am surprised I haven't read the novel it's based on. I think I'll get a copy.

The score by Jerry Goldsmith was innovative and interesting. Definitely worth a mention. I was 11 years old when LOGAN'S RUN came out, and I loved it. Became an instant fan of Jenny Agutter, I must say, as she wasn't too shy about appearing naked in her career then -- it was probably the first on-screen nudity I'd ever seen, this in a PG-rated film! A few years later she was in AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, also briefly in-the-buff.

Good review. I'll always have a soft-spot for this. It's my favourite of the pre-Star Wars Sci-Fi's of the 70's. I saw it as a kid, and had a Logan's Run annual (it was for the TV show - a hardback comic book popular in the UK as a stocking filler - contains comic strips, pictures from the TV show, and puzzles, etc). The 70's aesthetic the film had felt very dated even when I saw it (early 80's). If people can get past some of the hokey ish effects (and the flawed concept) - it's a very entertaining movie (though I agree with a comment below that 'Box' was always silly!) I always thought the TV show could have worked, because the book is very much a 'journey through a bunch of different places' narrative (more than the film). I didn't get around to reading the book until a few years ago, and I have to say I _really_ didn't like it. It definitely felt like more than one person wrote it, because the story is a messy hodgepodge of ideas, and the writing quality isn't great either.

I agreed. A lot of times when there are too many writers the movie suffers. It is amazing when having a lot of writers and it works. Alas, Logan’s Run works only if you watch if for fun and don’t focus on all of the silliness and accept to for what it is.

The adaptation of the book took so long that the concept was out of date by the time it was made. In the book you went to a "sleep shop" at 21. There were no domes, it was the entire planet. People who turned 21 and didn't reported were hunted down across the planet by the Sandmen. And the character of Francis turned out to be very different. I enjoyed the film because Jennifer Agutter was in it, (yes I had a bit of a crush), and the brilliant score by Jerry Goldsmith.

I LOVED this movie as a kid. I missed it in the theater* but saw it on TV somewhere. Anyway, I read the book it was based on many years after first seeing the movie and I have to say that I prefer the movie over the book. Maybe that would not be the case if I had read the book first. Who knows? The TV show mainly suffered from poor writing, in my opinion. Only one episode was above average: "Man Out of Time". Plus, it's a bit odd that Francis finds out in the very first episode that he's been lied to, that old people exist and actually run the city from behind the scenes, yet he still goes along with their request to find Logan, Jessica and Sanctuary. If they ever do a reboot, I hope they follow the movie from 1976 rather than the book. * Of course I saw Star Wars on opening day in the theater as a ten year old kid and saw it dozens of times over the next few years. I used to be able to quote the entire movie verbatim.

Thank you for all the info on the book and tv show. I don’t think kids today know how magical seeing movies in the theater can be.

Should absolutely be remade as only about 20% of the book made in the movie - and this is one story where today's SPFX would actually be a boon to the VERY WILD future of the bookd. And no there is no Carousel in the movie and the cutoff age is quite a bit younger - 21 !! And basically its a tribute to golden/silver age /classic pop culture. (which was nowhere in the movie) .

Just so we are clear, this is a terrible film. The effects are risible, the sets awful and the script diabolical. In no way is this a classic. The Box robot character is so ineptly realised that it's laughable and as for the city miniature, at least in Thunderbirds they had the good sense to blow air over it so it had some sense of scale. In this film it is clearly about an inch deep. Better forgotten about I'm afraid.
