*WWE (as the usual) dropped the ball on this storyline so hard. I remember how 11-year-old me was so highly invested in the storyline. From CM Punk dropping that infamous pipebomb, to the build up to match at Money in the Bank between Cena and Punk and even the match as well everything from the beginning was just pure perfection. And then WWE decided to kill his momentum by making him lose the Triple H which was super pointless. SMH.*

2:52 Correction: It was actually James Gibson(aka Jamie Noble) who defeated Punk for the ROH World Title. Colt Cabana was the one who beat Punk in his last ROH Match.
@dizzidazegaming
@dizzidazegaming 2 жыл бұрын
Gibson had one of the best moments. While Punk was talking crap, James just casually walking out, taping his hands in full view of Punk, then blasting for the ring. You knew then, that James was going to be ROH's hero for the Summer of Punk.

This could have been the best storyline in the world. Just think if they had actually had Punk go to other promotions and defend the belt and beat their top guys. While wwe could of actually had a good tournament to crown a champion and have Punk comeback and ruin the finals. It could have been so amazing.

Crazy to think CM Punk would have never left WWE in the first place, if he had gotten the one thing he had been wanting all along, a Mania main event. (The account in the reply section is not me).
@mycahjofficial
@mycahjofficial 2 жыл бұрын
WrestleMania 29 would’ve been the perfect time for CM Punk to get his ‘Mania main-event. But unfortunately WWE decided to end his historic 434-day title reign in the most disappointing way possible by making him lose to The Rock just so they could have him and Cena go at it again which made that whole “Once In A Lifetime” match complete nonsense.
@GameBreaker1055
@GameBreaker1055 2 жыл бұрын
@@mycahjofficial I mean, he did get his Undertaker match, which arguably WAS the main event of Wrestlemania at that time. Honestly, between defending a belt in the final match of the show against two wrestlers with no momemtum and taking on the streak, Punk honestly had the match with the better audience.

@@mycahjofficial and the funny/sad thing is that they could have still build a blockbuster main event by having Rocky (the Hollywood A-lister and WWE legend) vs Cena (the company man) vs Punk (the indy rebel), which would have add the additional benefits of: (1) not being a mockery of what was marketed as the "Once in a Lifetime" event just the year prior; (2) not making the outcome as obvious as it turned out to be; (3) not making one of their biggest money-making stars leave while still in his prime.

I really thought 2011 was going to bring in the next wrestling boom period. We had a set of new main eventers like Christian, Henry, Truth, and Del Dio. And silly me thought Punk would be the new Austin leading the way. Unfortunately RAW became the HHH and Stephanie show. That's when myself and millions of others started to change the channel. I already endured the Triple H and Steph love fest during the Attitude era.

I honestly totally forgot how bungled this story was following him winning the belt at MITB because I just think of the pipe bomb so fondly. But looking back at how awesome things were once MITB ended and the potential it had, and then thinking back that he genuinely was out the door until the final moment to commit long term his disdain makes a lot more sense. He came to the event having signed a two day extension to get through the event and didn’t sign a true contract until hour into the actual event. And you have to imagine all the proooses that were made to win him over and that he may have allowed himself to believe that it would happen. Then once he’s signed the dotted line they have him return immediately, have him lose the title in a lame as hell way, and then feud with Kevin Nash of all people. And then when he can’t even get cleared he gets to lose to HHH without much of night. Then he has to back HHH on TV before he wins back the title and goes on his run. And while having a record run more PPVs than not he wasn’t headlining the cards then he gets thrown to the rock, undertaker and Brock. So I can get it to an extent. You were finally ready to leave after being disappointed in not being seen at the top level, probably get promised the world to finally get you to sign on again and then you’re a second tier top guy, getting a run many would envy but always being second fiddle and how much at that point he must have wished he had just left.

This summer of punk thing could have easily brought Buzz to the entire Wrestling industry if only WWE worked with the other promotions to give the "Punk leaving WWE with the WWE title "more teeth . Fat chance of that ever happening. However ,Can you imagine the buzz seeing Punk defending the belt NJPW or ROH or TNA or CZW and so on . Have Punk defend the belt at these promotions for atleast 4 months . This would have been the biggest event in wrestling since the debut of the NWO . ... and then they could have had him return to the WWE in time for Survivor series to face Triple H , who has taken it upon himself to win back the WWE belt from Punk. Oh well , a fan can only dream ....
