Yeah, it was a great gag with bad execution. Though in fairness I’m not sure there was any way to execute it well, because even on TV it was tough to see what they were doing.

I still enjoy the gag, but it was rough to make out what exactly was happening on TV. It might have been funnier, and actually made sense if Head & Shoulders were the sponsor of the PPV, instead of probably Stridex.

Btw, the overall name & image change of the heel(villain) tag team Too Much("Too Hot" Scott Taylor & "Too Sexy" Brian Christopher) to beloved, fan favorite, babyface tag team Too Cool(Scotty 2 Hotty & Grandmaster Sexay) was awesome.

I will defend the Al Snow/Too Much match from KOTR to my dying day. It’s a little lowbrow but it’s good comedy. Al at one point exits the ring to the outside and marches all the way back to the entrance ramp before charging at Brian Christopher, rearing up for a devastating move of some kind as Brian visibly braces himself and screams out as Al sprints towards him and slams him with… A clothesline… Just, a clothesline 😂

To be fair though, the matches they had were experimental and did grab the attention of the audience. Apparently they did learn from them, not to do that type of match again with each other.

Okay. As someone who was there live and saw it with my own eyes, I am personally OFFENDED that Undertaker vs Kane at Judgment Day w/ Steve Austin as special guest referee is not only on your list, but is so high on your list! That was NOT a bad match! It wasn't! I'm literally crying right now, Adam Pacitti of Cultaholic Wrestling! ...Sidenote: Too Much was comprised of "Too Hot" Scott Taylor and "Too Sexy" Brian Christopher (RIP). When the gimmick was changed almost overnight, I thought it was definitely the end of their careers. I'm happy I was wrong.

He wasn't to allowed to wrestle at a higher pace because of his character, that's why Taker loved the biker gimmick so much because he had the freedom to wrestle however he wanted. I have heard that when Vince asked Taker to go back to his Deadman gimmick, Taker wasn't interested at first but then Vince assured him that he can continue wrestling at a higher pace.

Random fact about that starting sentence: whether you count it as 1998 or as the time from WM 14 to WM 15, Austin actually fell 2 days short of spending over half of the year - as in the year associated most with Austin-era Attitude - being the champion. In fact, the only time he spent more than half of a year as champion was the year after WM 17. Goes to show sometimes "who's chasing" tells you more about who's the focus/draw than "who has the belt."
@rustlerv6549
@rustlerv6549 Жыл бұрын
That's true actually, Bret had the belt when the focus was on Taker vs. Shawn for number one contendership, when shawn became champ the focus was all in on Stone Cold and when Triple H became champion it was all the same since everyone was solidly behind the rock and couldn't wait for him to get another run with the belt as a face for the first time
@a.polaris5726
@a.polaris5726 Жыл бұрын
@@rustlerv6549 Bret is my pick for all-around GOAT and Shawn is my 3rd place pick for most overrated, and even I have to objectively admit you're completely right about that first part. I feel almost like back then, they just knew the chase made more compelling TV. I feel like that's maybe what they "tried" to do with Punk and then Bryan years ago, but the newer creative crowd didn't really know how to do it. Another factor is that in Austin's year, there was nobody at all holding it for like 2 months, so he technically still had it longer than anybody else did that year. Foley & Rock also kept swapping it, and due to that, Rock technically reached his 3rd reign before Austin reached his, fun fact.

Gotta disagree with your top two, here. The "Inferno Match" was always meant to be more spectacle than anything. It was never sold as otherwise. Big suplexes and powerslams and chokeslams sending the fire up into the air was incredible to watch. The wrestling, itself, was limited but it never detracted from what the match was meant to be. So, yeah, feel like you're reaching with that one. Feels more like a "shock value" kinda thing to be on this list when there are easily far worse matches of that time. And the last one? It was a brief tag team match with a funny joke at the end. It centered around Al Snow, a crazy person who talked to a mannequin head called Head, feuding with a goofy-ass troupe of Too Much and The King. Of course it was going to be a dumb, silly, joke of a match with a punchline finish. Again, feels like this is reaching as a "number one" spot given all the other nothing matches that happened in '98.

The Triple Threat between Kane, Undertaker, an Austin could of been so much better, especially if after Undertaker and Kane beat on Austin for a bit after he's on the mat, they would both look down at Austin before kooking at one another as they would start fighting each other. Since they both knew only one person could win which would lead to them brawling on the outside, I don't know if the match was a no dq or that but if it wasn't, as soon as the ref got to the 9 count with either Taker or Kane still out of the ring, because Austin was keeping them from getting back in the ring or they were seriously injured, Vince would stop the ref telling him that the match can't be won by a countout. This would keep the match going while having Vince trying to screw Austin over even more and another spot could happen later where Taker or Kane would do a illegal move like a low blow or do a choke hold on the bottom rope which would go doe a dq, but once again Vince would step in saying the match was also supposed to be a no DQ match. This of course would give Austin a big smile on his face since he has a huge fighting chance now that the rules are mostly out the window. There could even be a spot where taker or kane slams Austin or get slammed into the ring bell which would make it fall, and would be used by Austin near the end of the Match when Kane and Undertaker could be working together to try to hit Austin with a chair; But he instead would avoid the chair shot before hitting taker or kane with a low blow making both brothers fall to the floor, seeing how his plans on backfiring Vince would storm to the ring and try to ring the bell but he wouldn't find it. That's when Austin would quietly slide out of the ring as he grabs the bell before hitting Vince in the face with it before flipping him off and cussing him out before going back into the ring hitting either Kane and Undertaker with the Stone Cold Stunner and getting the three count. I feel that would still have Undertaker and Kane look snart as they srill had to go after the other person if they wanted to pin Austin, it made vince look like a fool who ruined his own plans to try and stop Austin, while Austin would still look smart and would have a reason to terrorize Vince even more now.
