I have seen this in black and white many years ago . Brilliant movie . The movie was originally called St Martins Lane . Then changed to the Side Walks of London .

Charles Laughton sait même jouer les chanteurs (et surtouts poètes) de rues, débrouillards et déshérités... Mais ça reste toujours le même personnage plus grand que nature en fin de compte, mêlant l'affabilité à une violence sourde qu'il peut diriger sur ses proches aussi bien que sur lui-même, le laid. Ce film de Tim Whelan est un peu une variation d'une histoire à la "Une étoile est née", avec le pygmalion mettant le pied à l'étrier d'une jeune pousse talentueuse (Vivien Leigh, déjà bêcheuse), avant de se faire remplacer par d'autres et avoir une évolution pathétique... La différence étant que la personne qui va décliner, en parallèle de celle qui va monter très haut, représente aussi un métier lui-même en voie d'extinction. C'est toute une catégorie d'individus qui sont destinées à être voués à l'obscurité, la misère et l'oubli, écrasés par la lumière si forte de la gloire. Mais tant qu'il reste quelqu'un qui puisse se rappeller d'eux...

Does not need to be in colour. Saw, I think it was Myrna Loy talking on Cavett & saying that she had seen a colourised film she had been in & two of the colours were wrong ... frock colours, which she remembered.
