That was of a lot of interest it reminded me of something I saw Werner Herzog say about how you shouldn't try to uncover your emotions hoping to correct them. To a western audience it's shocking to say that.

My priestess name is Kinsita, a portmandeau of Kensai (the "living weapon") - and Sita, the goddess of sacrifice and cruicible, rebirth and ascension -- as the phoenix. I appreciate your observations along the path of All Forms, for I agree, it is preferrable yet harder to maintain egoless, than the path of No Forms.

I appreciate your commentary about the "musical upbringing' version of a family religion. More as a pure and virtuous pursuit, and as a parent-pleasing sign of general, institutionally-recognizable potential, than as a legitimized career path. In my own experience music shared a version of this kind of hallowed space with science/education/politics, so in the end it all got pretty watered down. But not unlike a devoutly religious background, I think the package deal can set up for a lifetime of unwinding. Music as the kind of waves which can displace emotion, much as emotion can displace a thought. Embodiment and ultimately play. Nice show and connecting observations, I enjoyed it.

The parent pleasing dimension was truly profound, annoying and confusing. It soured the performance side of music making for a long long time. I think they got increasingly dismayed as I became obsessed with evermore weird music since this suggested less institutional potential - and indeed! Definitely more to be unpacked there - thanks for the reminder! Interesting to think of music in terms of emotional displacement. I’ve usually thought of it as synthetic emotional implantation - have not adequately considered the emotional states being suppressed!

@@assemblyofsilence Yes, displacement in the (more positive than negative) sense of "assuming the place of" rather than as alienation or denial. In my mind the image fits ("there's no replacement for displacement...") but for expressive purposes I could have found a better word, along the lines of what I'm pretty sure you're getting at with "implantation" -- a creative placement of an essence within music.

Re "profound, annoying" and (most of all) "confusing," I can surely second that description. I mean, just where else exactly were they expecting all those virtuous affinities to go? In spite of idealistic protestations to the contrary, when it comes down to it nothing really beats an offspring with a well-compensated and well-recognized career.
