Cultivation of Okra after Wheat crop || Crop Reformer

Okra / Lady finger is commonly grown from March to June in Punjab. Spring sowing is mostly practiced during the month of March. Market rate is very high in April but March planted crop fruits in May and farmers can not get its high rate.
Okra is an important vegetable crop of Punjab and planted on thousands of acres annually through out the province. Its early crop fetched more price in the market than commonly March planted okra. In this video we have explained that its early planting in the tunnel has not been found fully successful in central and north Punjab. However, those seasons of south Punjab which are free of frost and fog, have fairly good chance of success in tunnel planting. This crop has been found more susceptible and prone to low temperature than cotton crop belonging to the same plant family of malvaceae. We have suggested that this crop may successfully be planted one month earlier if a polyethylene sheet is spread over the ridges after wetter planting during the month of January.
Okra curry is one of the famous vegetables sold in our local markets and is known as a delicious food almost all over this region. It is also rich in several nutrients needed for our health. It is a metabolism booster vegetable. It is one of the foods that increase metabolism. Its health benefits are countless. Production technology of vegetables is evolving with the passage of time. Induction of new machinery provides us sustainable production through the year.
Selection of variety is one of the major factors on which production of crop depends upon. There are several conventional and hybrid varieties of Okra available in the market. To choose the best one to cultivate is a major decision for getting better production of okra. Production technology of Okra is now dependent on the selection of best variety. Now a days, hybrid types are available and advertised vastly. These varieties have their unique characters and becomes economical in the due their higher production rate as compared to previous conventional ones. Production technology of this crop will be discussed in next few videos soon.
