Second single released by the reformed Culture Club of 1998. Following the unexpected success of "I Just Wanna Be Loved" across Europe, the pressure was on to follow-up with a similar hit. Having been working on the album already, several songs were re-worked and added to the album to be better prepared to support this new success. Unfortunately, the extra time getting the album "just right" missed the window of opportunity and none of the promise of that first single was expanded upon.
However, that's nothing to do with the songs themselves- some of these songs are the best in George's entire career! "Your Kisses Are Charity" is a personal favorite, it's similar in style to smash hit Karma Chameleon by meshing country with reggae in a way that makes everyone wonder "Why isn't this more commonplace?" It also allowed George to fulfill a life long dream- recording with Dolly Parton. Although they never actually met in the studio recording this song, they were scheduled to perform on UK's "The Lottery Show" in 1999 where Dolly joined Culture Club on this song, and members of the Culture Club touring band returned the favor by performing a very different version of "Jolene".
This video includes TWO versions of the song; the "Extended Blouse 4 Dolly Mix" and a bonus "Naked Without The Skirt Instrumental", both of which have mix titles that show off a little of my twisted humor, I guess. Enjoy!
