Malay & Tagalog belongs to the same language family, thus the similar words. However, we don't understand each other. To put it into perspective, Malay, Indonesian, Bruneian, Singaporean, South Thai are like siblings. The siblings and Filipinos are like 2nd cousin. Ethnically/historically, native Filipino are also Malay. But now everyone got mix mix la 😂

If you go to the Rizal Museum and look at the pictorial history section you will see that the Filipinos used to dress just like the olden days Malays with tanjak and sampin. But the Spanish and subsequent US invasions changed all that.

Well, i never watched any, but i know their existence.. 😅 Not just Philippines TV series, we also broadcast Indonesian sinetrons, Thailand's dramas, Singaporean sitcoms, Japan & Korean dramas too.. Actually on mid 2000 our education system allowed to use both British English and American English,but students must be consistent in choosing which standard they are going to used in their test or exam & cannot be mixed ..most Malaysians are exposed to most term of both standard of English of British & American,but some just don't realized certain terms belongs to which standard. Example,we all know pants & trousers,or can & tin,lift & elevator..and use them interchangeably...

Early 2000 Filipino TV series drama is quite popular broadcasted on local television..such as Pangako Sa'yo so ppl growing up on the 2000's mostly recognised Jericho Rosales & Kristine Hermosa..and also Dingdong Dantes & Marian Rivera (they have a few series shown on local TV too)

Regarding your point of similarity of the words on the language,that because Malay & Filipino are same root under Austronesian language,so we have so many cognate terms,the most difference striking features are Malay does not conjugate its verb while Filipino does it & the affixations are less complex compared to Filipino.

Non-citizen pricing is mainly for tourist visa holder. If you have a work permit, student visa, MM2H visa etc., you could get citizen rate but it might be vary on different attractions. As for English, we learn British English but we didn't emphasize that it is British English but simply English. And we are quite expose to American English as well because of the international entertainment industries. So I think we could understand both and sometimes doesn't even know the difference but just make it like normal English in general. For example we do use Rubbish and when asked that is another word for Rubbish? Trash and Garbage are the answers... and some will be confuse if you replace 'another word' from the question earlier to 'American word'. As for me, I just use whichever comes to mind first and sometimes wrote color and flavour in the same sentence. Since we are accustomed to 'rojak' language mixing Malay English Mandarin Cantonese and Tamil in one sentence, American and British is way too easy 😅

@@HoneysMYStories i am proficient in Malay (my mother tonge) and English (3 if English divided by British and American 😂) ...understood a bit of Mandarin and Japanese but can't speak well. My kids can speak Malay Mandarin and English fluently since both of them attending Chinese school. The only time we emphasize British 'element' is on Electrical Engineering class because it is very important to know that we follow British Standard. Other than that, I don't think Malaysian need to be known the difference.

@@HoneysMYStories we also have that kind of similarities and difference for example Malay language and Indonesian language... we generally understand each other but some words are different and some word is the exact same word but the meaning is different. Not only that, Malay language spoken in Singapore and Brunei too have slight different words/terms that only used there and same as English, generally we understood each other. FYI, official language for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei are Malay language.

I like your mentality regarding tourist/local fees. Some have the mentality that its not fair for tourist having to pay extra instead of seeing it as local being subsidized by the government. Similarly even local fees in some places, often time involving governmental offices and hospital, there will be exemption (or discount) for government workers/staff (apart from elders/student/disabled discount).

Agree..all tourist areas have 2 tier ticket system. Locals have lower salary or income compared to tourist. Just imagine a local wants to go to oslob or coron , how much are they going to spend? If you go up langkawi's skybridge, the ticket system is 2 tier for example.

@@HoneysMYStories malaysia's destinations in general are mostly suitable for family vacations while those in philippines and bali and thailand (from what i saw in vlogs) are suitable for younger age groups of 20 to 30 range. It is mostly sun, beach and water. I cannot imagine a 70 something westerner jumping into kawasan falls or jumping into the sea at siquijor for example. Also our night life scene is subdue (low key) compared to bali or thailand as it is a predominantly muslim country although alchohol is available. Islands like pangkor, tioman and langkawi is duty free. Mainland is expensive. So we do not have a culture of party at night and drinking until you go naked on the street like in uk. However , perhentian islands maybe a bit different as backpackers love to go there...yes crazy party there and drinking. I guess with new rules in boracay, more backpackers will throng perhentian islands in the east cost. Which is called malaysia's maldives there. Overall malaysia's destination are friendly to families. Perhaps too boring for singles(westerners), they prefer thailand or philippines like the tagline "it is more fun in the philippines !"

Yeah it was primarily due to the old days influence by either the british or americans. So here it's lift, in philippines maybe it's elevator, right? BTW, may we know which city/town in the philippines are you from? In the case of the response to a person saying thank you, I think it's merely a subconscious decision to not be too formal - responding with you're welcome sounds a bit too official, perhaps similar to the mandarin bu ker chi. Plus, in some instances, the 2nd person may also feel that the 1st person has done something worthy of being thanked for as well so the entire process gets shortened that way 😊 I didn't watch that TV series but of course I was aware of it, it was popular here back then, so they must've meant the original production. Similarly the song anak was popular wayyyy back, perhaps that song was the 1st eye opener to many if not all, malaysians, that tagalog and bahasa melayu share several common or almost similar words 😊

I hope Filipinos and the government of the Philippines would consider to reintroduce and reuse Malay language as its Lingua Franca or National Language since many of historical inscriptions or documents were written using either Old Malay or Classical Malay... I don't know how to put this... But if you learn the history of the Philippines... There were quite a number of malay sultanate reign in the islands... For example, the sultanate of fi'amanilah ( manila ), sulu etc... If I'm not mistaken, before 2000 or 2010 something like that, all Pinoy are classified as malay in their passport coz I used to see it on my Pinoy friend's passport...

As a Filipino not really that much, especially now The Philippines has new president so the system has huge changes in just atleast less than a month, we already felt the changes particularly the transportation, since we’re archipelago country plenty of islands we prepare bridges to connect island to island🥰. Guam 🇬🇺 (Pacific Island) Country USA territory, Has lots of shocked to us Filipinos cuz we don’t need to acquire a VISA to enter GUAM since GUAM is America territory, and we didn’t know that Guam population is related to Filipinos almost the population are Filipinos some Filipino descent and similar culture and Foods, the health care system, tourism, Salary, education and other stuff are smooth. Yes we look the same...when i visited Philippines before...almost 70% Filipino ive met like waiters, receptionist, sales persons at the mall speak tagalog to me...i just smile and said im not Filipino...sometimes ive to show my passport because they didn't believe me...😄
