New Zealand is spoilt for National Parks. We have 12 of which two have been declared World Heritage Areas. Fiordland National Park (southwest corner of the South Island) is also a World Heritage Area; well known for its stunning fjords. Tongariro National Park (central North Island) is the other; best known for the troika of active volcanoes, with Ngauruhoe being used as Mt. Doom in Lord of the Rings. The other ten are Aspiring; Aoraki/Mt. Cook; Westland; Arthurs Pass; Kahurangi; Nelson Lakes; Abel Tasman*; Urewera (eastern North Island) and Whanganui (west central North Island). I live in Christchurch, about 2 hours from Arthurs Pass and 4.5 hours from Aoraki/Mount Cook.

I have two national parks that I love. Algonquin is one, it’s for nature lovers and it’s wild and Arrowhead Provincial Park is less wild and excellent for camping. They are both located about three hours north of where I live in the province of Ontario, I’m ten minutes from Lake Ontario. Algonquin is the furthest. Arrowhead is just outside the town of Huntsville, in Ontario. Thanks for the great video, sans the snake. 😳 Lots of gushers today, love that. Are there some areas that are more prone to finding snakes? 🇨🇦😎🇨🇦

They do, when they are able to. Seeing that a large snake just disappeared into the bush, they skipped the entrance of that culvert. They won't step down into areas with fast-flowing water which they know is hiding a deep area! These ladies do an excellent job with the tools they have. The two of them buy their own tools, pay for the truck (and its maintenance, pay for the gas used wandering for 100's of miles around their home county and WELL BEYOND. They can't clean out a lot of debris from crushed culverts. In this video, they visit culverts they have visited many times, so they know what they can reach, where they can step, etc. It's a mucky job which many people would never do. The residents don't even keep their own culverts open! If it weren't for the efforts of these two ladies many more roads would be washed away or severely damaged and people wouldn't have access to their homes for days after a storm. Please, only give credit to them for the voluntary work they do!

What's with all the fences across the rivers in your area? So instead of the debris being able to flow away as it occurs it snags up & just causes a massive issue snagging all th debris. Same with the barbed wire fences right at the exit of the culverts so all the debris gets caught on it & blocks the culvert. Has nobody worked out these are really stupid places to be be putting these fences 🤔 or am I missing something?
